Chameleon Info:
Your Chameleon - Panther Chameleon, Male, 6 months & I have had him for 3 months.
Handling - Chameleon is handled for ten minutes every other day.
Feeding - He eats Crickets, Meal worms, Silk worms, Locusts. We are currently feeding him once a day although occassionaly he ismt interested. We gut load the feeders with bug grub and fresh fruit.
Supplements - We dust his feeders with Pro Rep calci dust, nutrobal and Zoo Meds Reptivite. The nutrobal is dusted every other Sunday and the Reptivite used on weekends.
Watering - We mist the vivarium at least 4 times a day for no shorter than 5 minutes. We do see him drinking from the vines and leaves although when handling he constantly licks my hands but not my partner. We have also started showering him and a plant once a week.
Fecal Description - His poop is normal, brown with a white urate. He normally goes everyday or every two days.
Cage Info:
Cage Type - Exo Terra glass vivarium. He was in a 90x45cm. But once at six months we was placed in the larger viv which is 90x90cm.
Lighting - His lights go off at 9PM and come back on at 8AM. He has an Arcadia hood and an Arcadia reflector clamp lamp on top of the hood.
Temperature - Temperature is currently 79.9 degrees which is controlled by a habistat dimming thermostat and monitored by an Exo terra thermometer.
Humidity - The humidty level is currently 81%. This is also monitored by the exo terra thermometer.
Plants - We have two real umbrella plants. Would like more but hoping for suggestions.
Placement - The cage is located in the corner of our living room. It is not near any fans or vents. The cages at my eye level and I am 5"7.
Location - Located in Oxfordshire
Current Problem - Two days ago our Chameleon suffered a prolapse. It came out of his bum, looked like a little mini red strawberry, was moving all around with small white dots, it was out for about 10 seconds and then went back in. We researched this once it happened as well as phoned the vets and breeder for advice. Everyone said it could be his hemipenes. It didn't seem to bother him at all, but we took him to the vets anyway. The vet squeezed his tail to make his hemipenes come out. We were asked if this was what we saw come out of him, but it wasn't. Therefore the vet thinks he suffered a prolapse. Now when this prolapse happened, Mylo (The Chameleon) pooped at the same time. This is making me wonder if he was constipated and it prolapsed from him pushing so hard. Is this possible? How would I tell if this was the case? Since this event he has been fine, still eating and drinking. He's been moving a lot slower but he is in shed so I think this is the cause for that. Although this shed seems to be taking days, he's been at it for two days now whereas normally he sheds completely in four hours. The vet said it could be parasites so to collect a poo sample, only problem is he hasn't pooped since the prolapse, so two days. Should I be worried? Should he go everyday? Apparently it could also be a calcium deffiency. Is this the case if we dust his food as instructed? Any suggestions are appreciated. Thank you.
