panther chameleon and thermostat/humidity gauge

hello everyone :)

so are thermostats and humidity gauges useful for an ambilobe panther chameleon's cage?
I've been reading online and some sites say to use them, while others say its not necessary.

I think you will find that the most common answer on here will be YES! You need to able to know at a glance that the temps are good. As a matter of fact having several thermometers placed throughout the cage is best. This way you can see what the temp is in the basking spot, middle of the cage, and at the bottom. Remember that you want to provide your chameleon with a temperature gradient in the cage so they can thermoregulate.

As for humidity, a single gauge, placed where it will not be misted directly, and not directly under the basking spot is all you need. Again it is important to know what the humidity is in the cage so you can make adjustments accordingly.

thank you for your responese :) i will def add them then. Do you have any suggestion as to which i should get? my panther chameleons cage is all mesh

There are several types of both out there. I don't like the less expensive analog (round dial type) hygrometers as they are not always that accurate and can get sort of "stuck" on one reading. An electronic digital type is better. For thermometers I prefer using a non-contact infrared temp gun instead of mounting thermometers in the cage. You point the gun at whatever you want to check the surface temp of, and it will register it in a few seconds. You can move this hand held one around where ever you need to check and get readings within a degree or so. Check the larger web herp supplies for them.

Unless if you know for sure that you are in the PERFECT climate, invest a few dollars in a thermometer or hygrometer or two... Make sure your chameleon is comfortable by creating a good temperature gradient.
