Paintings of Pfefferi, Cristatus and Pygmy Art

So I finished my Pfefferi painting today and a Cristatus earlier in the week.
I saw Joel's post and I was inspired by the amazing Pfefferi - I hadn't seen them before and they were so amazing- all the colours of the rainbow on one tiny little body, I've dearly loved the prehistoric/dinosaur looking Cristatus - just drawn to those turquoise scales that really pop next to the browns- and the pygmys - well I do have them and these are two of mine- Until we get more CBB here I'll have to wait for those other species for my collection and make do with painting them. A zoo on paper i guess.
For those who are interested these are all acrylic- The Pfefferi especially had every- i mean every! scale painted- and believe me it's no random pattern when you look carefully- every part of the body has particular scale patterns which I find fascinating, each scale painted in white then acrylic transparent glazes over that to give the colours. Seeing them I couldn't resist such a glazing opportunity! Sorry they have a slight sheen- acrylics- so I think I'll matt varnish them soon.
Hope you like them!

Wow these as spectacular! You have an incredible talent to be able to capture these guys with a paint brush. I'm blown away by all of them!

TABITHA!!!!!!!!!!!!! I want and I need!!!!

Very impressive. Of course I have seen your artistic ability before, but I didn't know you painted as well. That pfefferi pic is out of this world.:love:

Do you use a sponge of some sort to get the texture in the back of the first painting, or is it brushwork? I always have trouble making good backgrounds >.<
Great job :)

These are spectacular! Thanks for sharing. Being an artistic type myself I can really appreciate the time that had to have gone into these. Great talent indeed!

Thank you all for such lovely words- As always it is a pleasure to study these animals closely- albeit not in real life but at least for art's sake.
What's next though?
Thanks again :)

Keopicat yes the back was sponged- I use babies bath sponges- fine textured as I won't use artists sea sponges because of envirnomental damage. I am a bit cautious/nervy of backgrounds too but I painted the card with black, used a sponge roller to cover evenly, let it dry then sponged on the lighter colours -either neat or watered done depending on how intense you want- I found the lighter colours got lost if you try and sponge wet in wet. Hope that's of some help.
Good luck.
