Outside Enclosures?

Hello everyone! Hope this is the right area. I'm just wondering about building an outdoor enclosure for Pascal.

I let my cats outdoors on leashes a lot cause I hate keeping them inside all day and I hate seeing Pascal in his terrarium. I also watch these cats like a hawk to make sure they don't get hurt and know they wont touch Pascal. My oldest Midnight does not care for him at all and my youngest Soltera was just curious but Pascal but her in her place today xD Are there any links on a how to or pictures of what you did? Any info would be great! Thanks!

please please please keep you chameleons and cats as far away as possible, if you are going to have your cats outside keep your chameleon inside if you are going to have your chame outside keep your cats inside. otherwhise the exoterra flexarium is fine as long as the temp are good enough

A couple of things to consider here:

Chams are territorial, so don't necessarily mind their cage assuming its the correct size. If you really don't like seeing him in an enclosure you could free range him indoors, but not with loose cats. You'd have to create a free range in a room that you can keep the cats out of. Or better yet, buy or build Pascal a bigger cage.

Cats are going to appear very threatening to a cham even if they are just watching it. That's probably pretty stressful for the cham who considers most larger animals it sees as predators. You CANNOT be certain either cat won't go for your cham if its loose and within reach.

If you want to build an outdoor cage for Pascal to use when the weather permits, fine. Just make sure it is sturdy enough to keep other free roaming cats, dogs, or wildlife from getting into it.

His terrarium is small right now but I think I'm going to buy the (38 gallon?) Exoterra for him next month which I think will be more then adequate for him:)

Also I don't know if this is being confused, I do not mean leaving him alone outside. Even when my cats go out on a leash, I watch them the whole time. I will still make sure they aren't together outside but I hope no one thinks I would just put him outside and leave him there lol

So all I did was go to Home Depot and bought a sturdy potter plant and some wire. I think it's 1/2 inch or something and I bought a short amount to just make the circle and closed it off with zip ties and it's super sturdy and easy to take out when the weather is nice. Cost no more than like $15-20 altogether

Similar idea to the last poster, but I made this for my baby, then when I changed him to his bigger enclosure, this became his outdoor one! (Without the lights obviously). I went a step further than the last poster, and got the largest drainage pots (is that what they are called? I'm not talking the pots that you'd plant something in but the thing you put the pots on to catch the water) they had and used that as the circumference for the mesh. I then, also used zip ties, and cut holes in the drainage pot to attach the mesh onto it. One thing I would note: **Take care where you put your zip ties (have the ends facing outside the enclosure), OR don't cut the ends!!** Zip ties, once cut, are very sharp, and you dont want your little buddy getting scraped up on these! The 1/2 inch mesh also allows nicely for you to easily stick branches in! I spent probably around $30-40 including the dracaena and the ficus plant that you see in there. :)

I have cats and dogs. First and foremost 100% agree with making sure your cats definitely can't get to the Cham, my dogs could careless, but I also haven't tempted it either. I have an outdoor cage, Ill try get post some pictures. I had an old brick water well and we enclosed it completely with screen and my husband made a door to get Chevy in and out. The inside is covered with plants, vines and plenty of climbing areas. We made sure that no matter what, every single tiny area that appeared open, was secured. Cats love lizards! Just make sure that you keep the Cham safe.

He also has an indoor cage and an area within my office that open range, however, he is NEVER allowed to be alone without supervision in my office, even for a second, my cats aren't stupid and know, because lets face it, he is prey in this house. All in all, just be cautious.

Thanks for all the help and pictures everyone! I took him out today and it was obvious how much he LOVED it so I will certainly be looking to set something up for him (hopefully the weather here stops being so crappy soon!).

I also do not allow the cats near him, everyone is watched like a hawk lol:p but cats are put in alternate rooms to him (Pascal in bedroom, cats in living room, Pascal in living room, cats in bedoom etc) the previous owner told me he was okay with her kids, cats and dogs and he regardless gets stressed around the cats so I've kept them separate. But thanks everyone ^-^ Really helpful!
