i made a 2'x2'x5' wooden cage for a 6 month old veieled. I am getting another chameleon tomorrow. I was guna put them in th esame room but across from each other with a divider so they cant se eatch other. but my veieled is startng to eat the soil so i dnt know if its cause if he has parasites. So my qustion is what do you think about putting him outside. the area gets goos sun andshade. i live in SD so our weather but every once in a while it will be over cast would hat be ok still?

Obviously, cover the dirt with large rocks to stop this, go to vet and get a parasite check, make sure your using multivitamin dust once a month, d3every to weeks and calcium without d3 5 days a week.....vields like the heat, for an adult male the basking spot should be 90 - 95 degrees.

I wouldn't keep him outside.....the weather is just to much to deal with....and since he may be sick with parasites....dirt eating....just keep him inside and cover those plants. Get em healthy. Then take him outside.

So a healthy cham won't eat dirt? So if you own one eating dirt chances are you it is lacking some mineral/element in their diet? Is it common for a parasite ridden cham to eat dirt? Is that some sort of instinctual cleaning mechanism, like a dog scooting his butt across your carpet?

i already covered the soil right after i caught him eating the soil with screen then rocks ontop of that. do you know of any vets in the san diego area that is affordable?

Parasites are an issue for Wild caught chams, and Veileds are Captive Bred for the most part in the USA, so parasites are not regularly an issue.

As far as temperatures, Veileds can handle a wide range of temperatures, as long as there is enough shade to cool down when it gets 90 degrees plus.

The value of natural sunlight far out weighs the negatives of weather in your (unfair) perfect Sun Diego weather....:D

I keep my little 3 month old Veiled outside in a cage and he loves it. The natural sunlight he gets is great for him, too. I live in Florida so the humidity is almost perfect for him.

i gave mine a nice warm shower to try and get him to poop (didn't work :/ ) while i was moving his cage outside and was setting up my new babies cage that i just got today at the pomona show!!!!! at first he was really mad he turned REALLY dark almost black. but once he was sitting in the sunny area and heated up he started to lighten up. I also gave him some water and food and he ate like a pig so i think its all going to workout. Ima measure the temps throughout the day tomorrow just to make sure everything is goo to go!!! thank you guys for your inputs.if you have anything to add feel free advice and opinions always appreciated.
