Outside branches

Hello I am wondering If I am able to use branches from outside off the trees. If so how do I clean these or bake them? I plan on drilling a small hole in each end and using wire to connect it to my mesh cage. Is this possible or must I buy fake stuff online or at a pet store?

It's totally possible Ie done it myself as well so yea jus make sure to rinse out the branches a quick clean and you're good to go

All my branches are from a tree in my yard. Some people bake, but I think this is overkill. Just wash and dry them and remove any loose bark. Check for bug infestation. You do not have to put holes in your screens attaching with wire if that is what you are doing. Push pins work well inserted into branches from outside of the cage and do not damage screens.

From what I understand, its best to wash with hot soapy water and also soak in bleach /water or bake @350° for 20-30 mins. I personally scrub them with a scouring pad, lightly sand anything that feels sharp at all before baking. I also change them out every couple months to help with maintaining as clean & healthy of an environment as possible. To hang them I like to use garden tie tape. Its $2-$3 a roll in any store's garden center. Its green so doesn't look bad, wont rust, soft & kind of flexible. Works great for me.
