Oustalets/panther hybrid

I am not sure if I am totally in awe in a good or bad way about this.

It is interesting at any rate.

the gentetics are close enough to do it, but you'd end up with something similar to a liger, were they are infertile and cannot reproduce, and then there would be a ton of genetic mutations as a result, i wouldn't imagine it living long, since chameleons are highly specialized animals.

i don't imagine there will ever be any true hybrid amongst chameleons. ..

you don't expect a iguana and a desert iguana to cross breed do you?

I believe what you may be referring to is a post I made some time ago. Philippe de Vosjoli took a pic of an animal in Madagascar that he/they (He and Bill Love) believed was a hybrid of these two species. A photo of the animal was published in The Vivarium many years ago. I can't remember what article it would have been in, but I do have the issue at my other house. I'll try to look for it this weekend. From what I remember though, it looked kinda like an F. nicosiai, for what it's worth.

roflmao!!! to Dsignrguy 's comment!
Is there anyway to find the pic and post it? I would be very interested in seeing it....

I am no geneticist.

but i am going off the basis of tigerxlion end result liger...

Lion...................................tiger
Family: Felidae................Family:Felidae
Genus: Panthera........ x....Genus: Panthera
Species: P. leo ................. Species:p. tigris

liger, it has no species name, odd...
Family: Felidae
Genus: Panthera

Panther..................................................Oustalets
Family:Chamaeleonidae........................Family:Chamaeleonidae
Genus: Furcifer ...................x.............Genus:Furcifer
Species:F. pardalis .............................Species:F.oustaleti

no such cross exists, but who knows.

i never said they did exist, but there is that possiblity, far more chance then the vieled chameleon x panther.

granted mammals and reptiles are far different, im sure there is far more that comes into play. and i could be horribly wrong.

i'm seeing a MASSIVE chameleon coming out of this discussion that will eventually get brought up in a movie.

apparently something within the genes makes it to where they keep growing all their life. like getting upwards of 900lbs

its a genetic defect, similar to gigantism, it eventually causes massive bone problems, and kills them.

this is brought on by the fact that the father is a lion, and mother is a tiger, the tiger doesn't have the gene to stop the growth gene shut off *to put it simply* in the newly created off spring,

there was a hole show about ligers, and the genetics of it.

appearantly every attempt at a male tiger crossing with a female lion has failed, only the lionxtiger combo has created a liger.

the thread are pinkies ok someone refers to a half oustalets /panther eating two pinkies i dont know how to post it here
