Hey guys,
I was just wondering if I should order my crickets in bulk?
I found a site called Armstrong where you can order like 500 - 5,000 at a time.

You can get a plastic bin from target or walmart that will fit any amount of crickets you can order. You can make a lid with chicken wire or just buy one of the plastic lids that comes with it.

I keep about 1000 at a time in a 10 gallon tank. I like being able to see if they have jumped up and are on the underside of the lid without being surprised :D

Breeding crickets is really cheap and easy, also kind of fun.

Like Amanda I like to watch them from time to time, their behavior is kind of fascinating. There is a long history in China and Japan of keeping crickets as pets and even fighting them. Learning this history will increase your appreciation for these little critters.

I've always wondered about breeding crickets. I just figured it would be too hard...
What do you have to do?

Its pretty much just a matter of putting a container with soil in the bin (females lay eggs in the soil with their ovipositor) with adult crickets for about a week, keeping the soil moist with a spray bottle, and then incubating with a heatpad for about a week.

The complicated part is figuring out the timing to keep yourself supplied. The smell can also be an issue if kept indoors. I keep mine in the garage and have no issues.

There are a few great youtube videos and also some great resources on this site.

I'd be broke if I bought all the feeders locally.
Armstrong's has been my supplier for years and I buy several types of bulk insects from them at one time for the same shipping price.
They have invariably been very reliable.
