I'd definitely keep plucking them out until a reasonable amount is in there :D
You can always put some cricket food in a little mound at the bottom of the cage for overnight if there are still a few crickets left in the cage to keep them away from the cham.

yea and part of getting chameleons to hunt for food efficiently is in your abillity to have few crix in there esp for a young cham, they need to be taught to go search between plants for any scraps

this is why cup feeding is rediculous imo unless you have a lot of chams and this is the only way to monitor

ok still plucking lmao hes had a feast though but like you said its too easy for him hes not going to learn to hunt for his food, i also put ome food at the bottom of his cage for the leftovers. luckily hes got lots of places to get away from them and they seem to be heading to the top of the cage towards the light

Too many crickets

Hello all! I just came across this marvelous site, and joined right up. I have been a proud chameleon owner for over a year and just bought my 3rd! My first is a male, Arnold, and my 2 ladies Lucy and Ethel. After all, Arnold needed some girlfriends.

I wanted to comment on the cricket thing. Our herp store said that the crickets would bite the chams at night (heck, they bite my hand, why not the cham) and keep the cham awake. This doesn't promote good health. Our babies love their sleep and need to get a good nights sleep every night to keep up their health. After all, they are cranky enough without losing sleep.

well i was up all night to check on my baby cham to make sure thoe crcicks wernt bothering him, theres only a few left in there but there staying away ffom him and hovering in the corner of the cage he sleeping like a baby hehe wont even open his eye when i turn the lights on

I made the same mistake when I first got my cham... 90 crickets in the cage! We got most of them out and distracted the rest with food. Luckily, my baby did not get bitten, but we learned that it's a definite no-no. Oh, and the noise was atrocious.
