Old China Cabinet

Hello all, I am new to this forum. I have a female baby veiled chameleon. She is about 2" (not including tail).

My question is this: I found an old china cabinet on craigslist and wanted to convert it into a nice cage. The dimensions however are weird. Height is 44" it is 35" long but only has a 13" depth. The depth is what I am worried about. I was wondering if this would be ok before I do too much more work on it.

Thanks!

Welcome to Chameleon Forums :)

That sounds like a nice size cage for a young veiled, but it's hard to say without seeing pics. I would use something larger for an adult.

WELCOME!!!

The cabinet has more cubic feet (11ish cubic feet) than the generally recommended minimum cage size of 18x18x36 (6.75 cubic feet) so that's good. Atleast 24x24x48 (16 cubic feet) is ideal.

I think as long as you have a good temperature gradient going it would be plenty of space, especially if you're starting with a baby cham. The way you utilize the space will also determine whether or not the cabinet is large enough. Just be prepare to either add an addition to the cabinet, or get a larger one. Your cham may end up being content in it, but if she gets too large and starts showing signs of being unhappy or stressed you would want to upgrade.

Do you plan to have an out door enclosure or free range area as well?

Do you have a picture?? We love pictures :)

P.S. Don't become discouraged by lack of responses. It's a holiday weekend and a lot of people are probably lighting stuff on fire :) If you comment on this again in a day or two it will move it back to the top of the posts and you will very likely get more responses!!

Thank you both! I will try to post some pictures as I am further along. And I understand about the holiday weekend. I have a little plant area that I will let her free range on when she is a bit older. She is still kind of skittish so I haven't been handling her. But no outdoor enclosure here in ohio. Weather is too unpredictable.

And thanks I will go for it and post the finished project as well.
