Frogg's new enclosure is due to arrive tomorrow!!! Very exciting right? To complete the decor, I bought a 3 ft weeping fig from Lowe's last week. I have a TON of indoor plants and trees, so I buy new plants closer to summer so I can quarantine them out on the deck. Good thing for this policy. A twenty min inspection/ repot became 2 hours!!!! I discovered, no lie, at least 300 millipede eggs in the roots/dirt of this tree, which was sold indoors as an indoor plant. How nasty!!!! Needless to say I was not happy to obtain this little piece of adventure. Hopefully the tree bounces back, cuz I was excited to use it for Frogg. I'll be trying the tobacco water trick to hopefully exterminate the little "beepity beeps" that I missed. Not entirely sure it was worth the $22 I paid for it!!!

Cool, a plant, AND Cham snacks. Bonus!

Millipedes are not poisonous like centipedes. Anyone ever fed one to a chameleon?

(Meant in a tongue in cheek way)

millepedes do excrete poison, centipedes are venomous meaning they inject venom and millipedes are poisonus, they excrete either poison or a foul smelling gas to deter predators, some even excrete cianide!

That sucks. I'm interested in the tobacco water trick that you speak of. What is it and where did you learn about it?

Common garden Millipedes do not excrete poison or foul odor, at least the ones we have around us..

If he is getting some other millipede species in that pot, that IS scary

(here is a little sarcasm )
martylian: ive learned the error in my simple ways, from derailing such an on topic discussion about stressing a chameleon.

(here is a little sincerity )
since then ive decided when i remember to, ill be adding a comment to indicate the tone of comment, such as you did. lol

after much internal debate i decided to preface with the comment indicating tone, instead of ending with it. do you think this will help those that might have had trouble reading and understanding my posts?

Why don't you just return it and get another one?

It was the last one. Go figure.... Thought about returning it , but by the time I found all the nasty, it would have taken less time to clean and repot, then to drive it back and return it. All the trees were kept on the same pallet. Any guesses how many are infested???

Found it on-line. Some home remedy, eco-friendly site. Steep tobacco,( I bought loose tobacco, they talked about using cigarette butts) to the color of strong tea and water your plants with it. Supposedly harmless to plants, but will kill a number of soil pests. Sorry I didn't pay much attention to the list, only that it contained millipede and centipedes. I'll post on how it works!!! I plan on a treatment now and one in about 3-4 weeks in case I missed some eggs.

Why not simply repot the plant after washing the roots free of soil? :)

I did :D. It was while I was digging out the soil I found all of the eggs. It is currently in a new pot with new soil and angry. It has lost almost all of its leaves. We'll see if the leaf buds open or not.

when they drop the leaves, some natural light and heat will do them some good, the branches that don't come back will dry out very fast, and then you will start to see new leaf buds.

Lots of water if its hot and dry were you live.
