I'm in southern Indiana, and it's starting to be a great time to catch feeder insects at night. In the grass fields and my landscaping near my house, we've been catching 10+ adult katydids and the same numbers of adult green and brown praying mantis in less than 20min. Cicadas are starting to emerge too, but they're more difficult to catch, but a great feeder for my melleri.
My boys and I head out about an hour after dark with flashlights and just squat and look for movement or antennae in the plants. With some practice it gets easy to spot the insects. There are countless grasshoppers and locusts to be found as well, but most are too small for my chams. They would be great for smaller chams.
Just something fun to do with the kids or yourself in the summer evenings.
