Today we went to visit our Great Dane Mike's new brother and sisters. These guys are 4 weeks old, but look at the feet on these guys! Mike is the big guy in the pic...
What are you in for? One of the best experiences of your life! These dogs are so loving and sweet, and a pleasure to own. It is funny how once you have one they no longer look all that big to you! Downsides? Well-take all vet bills and triple since everything goes by weight, they are severe attention-hounds, and they eat like crazy! Helpful tips-feed them right from the start-it will save you alot of vet bills and heartache in the long run-they MUST eat a low protein diet for the first few years while they are growing or they get all kinds of weird bone issues and deformities. AND most important-buy from a reputable breeder that has had all their health checks. I belong to a large Great Dane group, and I know I did my homework since our "Mike" is a very proportionate and balanced dog. I am sure you have seen Great Danes that get that Cow-hip look and weirdly bent legs. That is part heredity and part feeding high protein foods as a puppy. They grow for 2+ years so you have to be careful! Good luck-always happy to help, and post some pics when you get one!
