Not sure what wrong with my chameleon

Is being underweight a cause of sunken eyes?

Yes, I had a chameleon that refused to eat and lost large amounts of weight even with feeding her a liquid diet via syringe. She was drinking fine and parasites were not an issue. She was a WC melleri and did okay for a few months and then just went downhill and refused food. The vet confirmed the sunken eyes were a sign of emaciation.

I've rescued a couple other melleri that were emaciated and had sunken eyes even though they were drinking fine and had no other signs of dehydration.
