I would be extremely disappointed if people decide to breed these green Falys with the Blue Falys.

How about we all make it a final. That we won't mix these green and blue Falys together...

I believe that we are seeing the green ones now because people are bringing them in for the name. You are use to seeing stuff that has been imported from Vince at Screameleons, he has the best exporter out of Madagascar. For the last couple years the Vince has been the only one to bring them into the US. And because he brought in limited number and his exporter only shipped the best looking ones, a high price was pegged with Nosy Faly. Now recently the name Nosy Faly is associated with high price even though they are coming in at the same cost to the importer as the regular locales. So the people that import don't care what they look like as long as they can sell them as Faly for a premium.

I normally say this is my opinion, but not this time I know the person/people bringing them in (the actual importer, not the people selling them to the public).

I'm sure the blue/green thing is just a natural variation within the population similar to animals on Nosy Be, assuming what we recognize as Nosy Faly are indeed all coming from that island. They aren't separate populations; the island is too small for that.

Do you have any pictures of your guy fired-up or asleep? I heard that, that is when the most white appears. Your guy looks mature enough to have some clean white by now...? maybe im wrong.

the picture on that ad looks like a hybrid to me. dont know for sure, havnt emailed and asked the guy which locale is that example picture of... looks like some Falys that i've been seeing around lately.

I've also never seen a Faly with such thick red markings. Arent they known for the "red rain"? speckles...

this is simply to keep lines pure.

The only Falys that I have seen that impress me are the ones Vin brought in. Maybe Vin just got lucky and his guy only shipped him the blueish/white guys?

The fact of the matter are people are buying a name right now, not a chameleon. Looking at what has recently come in as Faly, a year ago I would have called them ugly Nosy Be's. I have seen many Nosy Be's that have a red background. I am not saying that they are or are not Faly...and to be sure they are from the same island is impossible unless you picked them out of the trees. There are too many people that you will never meet making money on these animals before they reach your hands to be sure of anything. I am just saying I feel people are buying them because they know Faly sell for more.

I originally though what separated Faly was the ability to throw the white background with some red speckling. Honestly the white is what gets me, show me any chameleon with a white background, I will take him, I don't care what locale you call it. Just my opinion.

p.s. the one in the ad Mark Lucas has is a WC Nosy Be I believe.

here are pictures of some N. Faly that have been around for a decent amount of time.

they all dont seem to share the exact shade of green----blue content. but by looking at the pattern, thats where it makes the most sense to me.

red speckles, white around the lower facial area... etc. u can see it.. its obvious

with a brand new locale in our country... with very few ppl who have their own breeding colony... its just important to keep them with the ones that match up. the specimens that come from the same source - Screameleons.

there are other ways of making extra money with the Panther chameleons... idk... this idea just came to mind...

could u imagine if ppl began breeding Nosy Be's with Ambanjas? and labeling them Ambanja?! instead of saying its an Ambanja/Nosy Be cross and being honest and taking less money, or you know... the special sweet purple barred Ambanja, that doesnt always turn out with red and blue together to appear purple... they now get the chance to market the blue on blue Ambanja!

as you can see... they're certainly not identical. but, they do have a few things in common. unlike the new guys that are around now. but all the N. Faly that have been around are pretty and unique in their own way. something that i havnt seen until they arrived.

now what i am seeing is something that i have seen. seen for a long time. and it seems that they havnt been for sale with the top breeders for a while now... for a reason? so what came out next? "true blue" Nosy Bes. what "blue panther" fan out there could pass up a "true blue" Nosy Be over a Nosy Be with a dad that has dirty reds on him? washed out blues, faded greens...

It's not luck, it's a good relationship with the exporter/importer, and being able to trust them. I could take a dump in a bag, mark it faly and ship it to the us, the importer could care less, he just wants his money, then it ends up on the market.

Kent, that Faly does not appear to be excited in any way? the only picture that he appears to be getting ready to puff up is the pic of him climbing upwards. and his neck is slightly puffed up. and thats the only pic where a tad bit of white is coming thru. is it not?

i dont believe Falys have much white when at rest. at rest do they have any? a friend of mine who has a killer Faly said his guy doesnt show any white, til he is completely excited.

that Faly on the site u sent me is awesome looking! the blues are so strong! the reds appear very dark, maybe they'll brighten as well when excited????

well in all... there isnt much of any way, anybody could proove these guys to be Nosy Faly, Ambanja, Nosy Be etc.

this is ending with me just saying... why mix up two totally different looks? when one of them looks more special, more unseen and rare?

one looks similar to something we have seen for many years, while the other look is something that makes us say "wowwww, now thats a new look!"

i wouldnt try to get my True Blue projects mixed up with a Nosy Be that has alot of greens and reds.

i wouldnt want a female Ambanja that has a gene of mostly blue bars when im trying to produce an Ambanja with red bars.

I think when it comes to genes an egg can produce anything. Just because you mix a blue bared with a red bared doesn't mean you are getting a purple bared. We aren't messing with paint, we are messing with genes. Do you really think that a female that has a blue bared dad in the wild will only mate with a blue bared male in the wild? I'm sure most clutches come out with babies that have a variety of different features.

We also don't know for a fact that these faly's that everyone else is breeding hasn't produced genes that have some that look completely different from the dad.

Actually, the ones pam has produced and vince, have looked very blue with a lot of white. And now I will agree an oddball will produce regular looking clutches...but when a whole shipment looks almost identical...they will produce what they look like. That is why pam and vince have been able to produce this appealing look and that is why I only buy females when there is only one look to the group...because they were all collected from the same general area with the same general look.

And that is why locales are locales...they all look similar. If we didn't know what would turn out, then locales would be a guessing game...thus so many people are breeding Ambilobes has polluted the look and no one knows what to expect. At one point in time there were sirama and picasso and diego...etc Now unless you get a wild caught shipment looking all the same or you have been using their own offspring as breeders, you won't know what you will hatch.
