Current Problem - He stays very very dark, sometimes on the verge of black. I just can't understand why. Ive owned chameleons before and have never had this problem. He eats quite a lot and everyday; like I said above I never really witness him drink but he always has very nice white urates. A little bit about him, he has been in my care for a little over 3 months. He is a very shy chameleon he gets scared and runs away when I go in his cage at all, but that is when I see the best colors out of him. When his mister goes on or when I go in the cage he usually will run away but at that time he will turn the most vibrant shades of blue I ever see him. Also, he is a dirt eater. Ive seen him eat dirt on more than one occasion. As you can see in the picture, I recently put a plant light on the side of his cage to try and lighten up the lower portions of his cage being that without it, it is very dark down there. I wanted to see if that might be the problem. I feel like Ive tried everything and in a color sense he just doesn't seem happy. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Ill post the best pics I can get but like I said when I go in his cage he usually runs away and seems to get happy lol. I can't figure this little guy out. Ive honestly come to the conclusion he just doesn't like being in a cage. Any suggestions would be great guys. Thanks.

this is the best picture I can get of him, you can get a sense of his coloration but this is actually decent coloring for him, he is usually a lot darker

All your parameters look pretty good and I like your enclosure setup. Maybe try upping his basking spot to 90. Does he spend much time basking?

Yea I guess you can say he spends a lot of time basking, I've made several adjustments to his basking spot, trying to see if that might be the problem, and he seems to like where it's at now. I say that because he used to always climb the top screen, it seemed he was trying to get closer to the heat. He doesnt really do that anymore. He does roam his cage but gets very very dark often. Seems like he's very stressed and I can't seem to pinpoint why.

Hi, nice set up. I would take the mid cage light off. Place it on top if your needing more light.

He is young yet and still somewhat new to you and your care. His coloring will come around :)

Could be a possibility of him being cold, they can go dark to soak in more light? the ambient temp seems a bit low. should def atleast be in the 70's.

A few other things:
at 4.5ft i'd maybe up the uvb to 10.0 bulb.

be careful of sun coming through the window in the summer months.

humidity also seems low, wrap some of the sides with something like shower curtain will help with humidity as well maybe ambient temp.

Lastly id cover your dirt with something like river rocks so he cant get to it.

On a good note i really do like your set up.
