i am still very new to the idea of a chameleon. i've been wanting one for the past year or so, and have been beating around the bush with the idea. i currently house about 150 fish, in 6 different tanks and i think i want to try something new. i've got all my fish and tanks up for sale.

i have been doing alot of reading in the past week on the care of a chameleon. my biggest question after reading is, is there a specific type of chameleon that a noob should start with? i know in the fish world there are certain fish that a noob should stay away from due to the difficulty in caring for those fish. is it the same in the chameleon world? i dont want to go out and buy a beautiful expensive chameleon that turns out to be too difficult to care for.

any insite? i like the veiled chameleons the most.

Veileds, Panthers, Jacksons seem to be the most popular choices for new cham ownership.

Also, Kinyongia multituberculata is a good choice to....and theres a good CBB breeder here on the forums.....seeco

Most important thing to consider is getting CBB(Captive Bred Born) or at the very least CB chams. WC(Wild Caught) are often infested with parasites and have a hard time acclimating to the new "world". Best left to experienced keepers(even they have alot of die-offs)

Look up some of the sponsor sites for great chams.....they will give you all the help you need and there is some really excellent bloodlines out there.....

Good luck!! (buy the multituberculata......ahem...:rolleyes::D)

as far as ive seen around it doesnt seem like any of them are much harder to care for aslong as you can meet their requirements (space, water/humidity,temp) if your house is super warm you arent going to want one that requires a more moderate temp/lower basking level.. if your house is super dry youll want a humidifier/misting system - you get the idea.

as long as you have a pretty good idea what youre getting into ahead of time youll be fine.

that being said, i have an amiblobe panther who is quite a bit easier to care for than it sounded initially - its just getting the right stuff/set up decent..temps/humidity and all that. after that is mostly feeding and cleaning up. not hard at all.

thanks for all the info guys/gals!! quick feedback. what is the "multituberculata" that your talking about? i've never heard that and a quick google search came up with an extinct rodent lol.

ahhh...i dont like the way those look to be honest. is there a site that shows most, if not all, the variants of veils that are available?

i dont know much about veileds to be honest but for the most part there are green with yellow stripes, some that have more of a turquoise color and some that have more yellow.. thats most of what ive seen. ill try to find some pics and post links to them..

janns album (louie and camille - first 2 pics)
tiki tiki yellow mako

hope its ok if i post these jann/chad (if not let me know and ill take em down)

and then youve probably seen the more standard variation. those are the ones ive seen.
