Does anyone use this for disinfecting cages?

yessir i sure do, my aquarium does too, it smells fine, and it works great. definitely a good choice for all reptile keepers.

Howdy Steven,

Nolvasan (Chlorhexidine Diacetate) or the generic product sold as Chlorhexidine Gluconate seem to have the same basic properties. Nolvasan can be found for about $40 a gallon and the generic at about $15. Either one is mixed at (as I recall from memory) about 128:1 with water, so a gallon makes over 100 gallons! Don't mix much more than you need for a week's worth. Something to remember is that it doesn't kill all of the parasite species that chameleons may be passing

. This is especialy true for Coccidia. Chlorhexidine is relatively safe when used as directed. In fact, is used as a wound wash. After rinsing, there is a slight residue left behind that continues to kill certain bacteria etc. There are some good threads about disinfecting that are full of links to other sites about the subject. Hydrogen peroxide greater than 6% strength. (Drugstore is only 3% but can be found in the beauty supply industry up to 12% or even 15% {dangerous stuff so be very careful
