Night time

Hello everyone :)

So I have had my Chameleon Loki for about a month now. He is doing really well...he is a light eater but he is very active and tries to crawl onto my hand every-time I open the terrarium doors and seems to enjoy being held and having his chin rubbed lol.

Now I spent almost 3 months getting ready for him, I am a new reptile owner and I knew that cham's can be hard to care for as a newby...so I did my homework and got his home and everything in order well before I brought him home.

Now that he is home I am getting conflicting information as to what to do at night...for the first bit I turned off the UV light but left his heat lamp on because the petstore lady told me that he would get cold otherwise. Then I read that they need dark at night to know its night time and sleep.

Yesterday I went and got a two in one light (uv and heat) and a "night time" basking heat bulb....so I left that on last night but its red and kinda creepy, when I got up to use the bathroom at 2am I peeked in and Loki was wide awake and the temp in the bottom half of the cage was 70.

So my question is, should I just turn it all off at night? I imagine its going to go down to about 50 if I do that...is that to cold for him?

Thank you!!!!!!

Chantal

No lights on at night. It will mess with their sleep cycle and your little guy may start sleeping during the day. Chams can handle temp drops at night into the 50's. They actually like about a 10 degree drop in temp at night. If he is indoors, you should have no prob keeping proper temps. You said it was 70 at night? See if you can get it into the mid 60's. Don't listen to most chain store pet shop people, they just try to sell more useless equipment.

if you look to top left of your screen theres a navigation block, look under care resources and click on the type of chameleon you have..there is all the basic info you need.

No lights at nite. if it less than 60°f at night, u can use a ceramic emitter if you must. otherwise, PITCH BLACK DARKNESS.
