Night Temps for Jacksons

Just a quick question for those other Jackson owners out there! Monty has spent the summer evenings/nights in the conservatory in a screen cage as I can achieve a bigger drop in temps at night out there. However, the weather is beginning to get colder now summer is nearly over and I was wondering how much of a drop is ok for him. Last night it went down to 53.8F (12.1C). Bearing in mind that the ambient daytime temp out there is low to mid 70s, is this night temp too cold for him yet? I know they need a good drop at night and like it cooler, but was wondering just how cold is TOO cold for Jacksons. I am happy to leave him out there for as long as possible if it is good for him, I'm just aware that I don't know how much coler they can tolerate. Thanks in advance!

I usually bring my montanes in when it is going to dip below 45. They can handle it a little lower than that but that is where I feel comfortable letting them out to.

Im betting Monty is liking his night drop!!!

Thanks! I am hoping he does as it is certanly too cold for me out there, but then I feel the cold more than most. I have always found it hard to get used to him needing cooler temps to be happy. After 3 years of Veileds it takes some getting used to adn requires a differnt way of thinking! The temps he requires actually fit in really well with what's going on outside so I think the UK weather is very suitable. So, really I don't need to think about bringing him in yet then, which is good as he really seems happy out there! He is more in tune with the natural day/night cycle out there too as he's right by the window.

Sweet!! Its great you worry about his night drop. Lots of people dont get too worried. In the summer when my chams are housed outside they could use a better night drop on some nights but for the most part it gets cool. Spring and Fall they get a really good one and when I have them housed inside I block off all vents to their room, use a space heater and their lights to heat it up and once everything goes off for the night the temp drops really well!! Even though we dont live where they can be housed outdoors all year we can still use nature to our benefit!

Well, my back garden is not secure and I don't trust people so I couldn't leave him outside it just isn't safe. He is far too precious to me to take any risks with him. The conservatory is shaded most of the day at this time of year and its as near to being outside as I can get for him at night. I have always been very aware of the need for night drops - I got him at just 7 weeks and luckily it was quite cod here then and I got good enough drops with him indoors as we don't have heating on at night in the house. I think that is partly why he has done so well, that and the fact that I have done my utmost to keep the little guy healthy and alive!

About this night drop? i am always worried that it is too cold at night for my veiled chameleon. it will go down to about 58-60 in his room so i usual put a space heater on so it stays about 65 or so. what is the coolest a veiled will tolerate? thank u ! :)

I have never been sure with veileds either, but I do know that the temps in the Yemen can get down to freezing on some nights. I have never used any form of heating at night since I started keeping chameleons. We don't have any heating on in the house for us overnight. Yes, there is a drop in temperature in their room, but they have all been fine and healthy. As long as they can warm up under their basking spots to get their body temps up during the day then they will be fine.
