Hi all, I have just purchased a 9 month chameleon. During the day he has a 60 watt heat light as well as a UVB light. My house is quite cold during the night especially at this time of the year. Is a 100 watt RED night light ok for my chameleon?

I would think not,,,These little guys need darkness to get a good nights sleep in!!! Are you sure the inside of the cage is going below 60 at night??? Do you have thermometers to regulate the inside temps???
Ive heard of these ceramic heater coils that give off heat,,,,or maybe even a blanket to cover the cage at night!!!!
Either way,,,,no night light!!!!!
Oh,,,and Welcome to the Forums!!!! Youll read everything you need to read right here!!!

Thank you for your reply, everything is so contradicting on the internet, some say to use a night light, others say not to...confused! Thanks again.

There is a lot of information out there. Now you've found the forum, you have a unique resource. There really is nothing better than getting support from experienced keepers. All chameleons are different, but you'll get some wonderful help and ideas here. Much more useful than a caresheet!

How cold is cold? Unless your house is in the low 60-50°F you don't need supplemental heat at night for a chameleon as old as yours. Chameleons can see red light and it may keep them awake. So if you are still nervous, it would be better to either move him to a room that stays a little warmer or get a ceramic heater, which outputs heat but no light.

Also, a temperature drop at night is good for them, so don't worry if it's noy staying in the 70's at night.
