I just wanted to know what everyones was opinion was on what species of chameleon is the "nicest" or most docile? Of course it will vary from each chameleon to the next but generally speaking what do you guys think? All species included?

I have one Rudis and one Panther and I would say that the Rudis is more docile for sure.

One of my male Panthers is so friendly! When ever I open up his enclosure, he 'sprints' right up to the front of the cage to 'greet' me. I also had a melleri that was also quite docile once acclimated.

Ha my Rudis does that, he'll wait by the door for a big finger to come around to climb on. My panther not so much, I can pick him up without to much of an issue but he isnt enthusiastic like that.

I heard that Montane species were more docile than others, do you guys think thats true?

It is SO individual I wouldn't really classify niceness by species. I've had very sweet docile melleri and stressy nasty ones, a nice male veiled, a pissy Jackson's and an evil deremensis (species often considered docile). Also a very nice female Jackson's and deremensis too. My wc verrucosus was shy, but never aggressive and my fischeris were both sort of middle of the road.

I consider a "docile" cham to be one that doesn't get defensive when I need to handle them or work in their territory. When you think about it, a cham who shows a color change in response to your presence is being defensive...it's just not threatening you physically. Whether a cham is "nice" or not is sort of subjective anyway. One that doesn't care about you either way will also not show the very color changes we love them for.

My Senegal is the sweetest thing. Never hisses or tries to bite. Puffs a little sometimes if I startle her, but that's about it. And once she sees it's just me, she's fine. She put up with me giving her medicine and looking in her mouth when she was sick. She never runs or hides and sometimes will crawl onto my arm if I'm messing with stuff in her cage. My very first chameleon who was also a Senegal was a real sweetheart too.
