Hi guys,my name is Hans. I wanted to have a panther chameleon as a pet....I had never had any pet before so this will be my new pet...However, I heard that a chameleon require proper attention to it.....Should I buy one or it is too difficult to handle as a pet beginner??... By the way, I stayed in Singapore....Is there any pet store that sold chameleons??....Thanks in advance:)...

Ohh, welcome to the world of chameleons :). I got my first a month ago, so I'm still new here too. I'm not sure about how to raise the kind of cham your getting, since I have the most common, veiled.

Three things you need to know right now though is,
1. Keep Heat and Humidity good
2. Proper vitamins
3. Proper lighting

I'm no where near an expert, but I learned a lot from this blog:https://www.chameleonforums.com/blo...-keepers-young-veiled-panther-chameleons.html

I think its the most used guide on the forums.

Good luck on your chameleon, and I expect to see some pictures in a bit :p.

If you really want one, then go for it. Just make sure you have the time and care for one. I wanted one for a week and I didnt prepare for how hard it was, I jumped in way too fast. But after a few weeks I got him everything he needs.

The only other reptiles I have owned is leopard geckos, and I was like, 9 or 10 xD.

It's difficult, but all worth it.

ow thxx...I wanted to have one but I am not sure whether they sells the food for chams in Singapore....crickets, worms etc...I think I will think about it again... thanks for the guide though..

No problem.

If you can't find any pet stores that sell crickets and stuff, you could always try and buy them online. In the upper right hand corner of this site our sponsers have really good deals on food. I think for one of them its like, 1000 crickets for 15$? I'm not sure.

thxx:)....U are very helpful to me....Thx a lot man...1000 cricket? do we need to feed the cricket as well?? And also what about the feeding time because I have school and stuff...Do I feed it once before I go to school and once after school or what???... Thank you:D

No problem, this is what the forum is here for! :).

Yes, you have to do whats called 'gut-loading' your crickets. It's pretty much just feeding your crickets good nutrients (carrots, lettuce, potato, stuff like that) because whatever your crickets eat your chameleon eats. There is full cricket diet cubes that you can buy and just put them in the cricket carrier and they will eat them as food. What I do is put the cubes in the carrier, then get sponges and fill them with water, then put it in so they have water to drink. Then just to be sure I put apple slices and others in there for veggies.

That's the feeding schedule that I have, once when I wake up, once when I get home, and another time around 5-6 PM.

If you have any other questions feel free to ask.

PS- This is about all I know, I know all of the basics and how to keep him alive. I'll try to answer any more questions you have :p.

Thanks again....Btw, there is one thing that had been bothering me...I heard that the normal diet is at least 10 crickets each meal..Is that right??So they eat like 30 crickets in total...And we only feed them in the morning and afternoon right???thank you

And for the chameleon, is veiled chameleon better that panther?I know that veiled is much cheaper...but how about the difficulty, are veiled chams easier to take care then panther??thx a lot man...

I usually put 5-6 in his cage each feeding, sometimes 7.

Yes the veiled is cheaper, and it might be easier to raise. I have a veiled and it's not too tough, you just have to stay consistent on the dusting and gut loading, ect. You would have to ask someone that has had a veiled and a panther on that one.

If it's color your looking for in a chameleon then choose the panther.
But if it's size, then get the veiled. Veiled can be very colorful, just definitely not as much as panthers.

Alright, cool.

It's amazing how much you can learn from owning a chameleon. It's really unlike any other pet I've had.
