Newbie

Nice...OK, here's another.

Looking at website after website, I see a lot of these starter kits and deluxe kits. They typically are sold buy the size of the screened cage, include the proper lighting, yadda yadda. The deluxe ones come with the auto mister and a few other items thrown in (vine, etc.).

Are they the way to go? Or would it be better to buy Ala Carte?

I had a veiled, and I currently have a panther. I got them both as adults which , personally, I prefer because I don't have good luck with small things. They are never "easy" to keep but once you know your stuff it seems that way lol. I also have a screened porch and as I already stated in another thread I am a huge advocate of roaches, just saying :D. I am also a huge advocate for free ranges, JannB is also her house is amazing!, Here is what I have set up on my screen porch for my guy to live all summer, but you could probably let one live out there all year round except maybe during winter nights. But I would only put a juvenile at the youngest on one because babies are so small they could get lost when they wander or even smooshed ( my boyfriend has accidentally punted Calais across the room a couple times when he was inside for the winter, but he is fine )

Welcome Drago. I live in Boca and will be willing to help you out. I can also turn you on to a good place to purchase supplies - Ben Seigals - a great place to shop. One of our members even works there on Sundays and is a good, no excellent source of information on anything related to chameleons.

My recommendation is a veiled. I feed my preadult or adult veileds every other day so if you go away they sure won't suffer. A baby should be fed every day as much as they want. Cup feeding eliminates the worry about possibility of being bitten, but don't leave a cup full of crickets in over night. Only as much as it will eat at one meal.

The bigger issue is water. They need to drink. If you have an auto mister you are ready to go. Other then that a dripper will last maybe 24 hours if it doesn't clog and stop dripping. I use drippers and spray on my younger guys. Depends on how much you are home. I am home all day. When I see some orange in someones urates, out comes a dripper. Works for me. I have my "kids" spread all over the place so a misting system is rather useless.

Welcome again and feel free to IM me with any questions.

WOW! Ben Seigals is at Powerline and Hillsboro. Right on Hillsboro..Big place with REPTILES right over the store in the strip mall. You will love it! Go in and ask for Danny. Tell him I sent you (Naomi) Everyone there knows me.

Danny only works on Sunday. If you want a set up I can help you if it isn't Sunday. The folks there are very knowledgeable about what you will need. but if you are leary about sales persons, I will meet you there and help. It isn't far from me. They open 12 today.

Pompano Beach. I'm near 95 and Hillsboro Bldv.
