Hi All
I don't have my chameleon yet, but looking to get a Veiled within the next month or so. I already have most of the stuff needed. Habitat will be a Dragon Strand. The Large Clear Side Enclosure 24x24x48. I am supposed to get that next week. I have right now a Zoo Med Mini Dual Dome and a reptile hood with a 5.0 uvb. My issue is, my stand is 36 inches, then the habitat is 48 inches, that leaves about 9 inches from the ceiling , once the Mini Dome is placed on top of the enclosure (using a dome hanger, maybe about an inch or less off of the top of the screen), that may leave, maybe 2 inches from our home's ceiling. I don't know if that is too close and will cause a fire hazard, we don't want to burn down our house! Can anyone suggest anything else or help? I was thinking of a Zoo Med Deluxe Sliding Terrarium Hood, but not sure if that would be too tall either. I think I have seen others post they put the light right onto the top of the screen, but didn't want it to burn or affect the chameleon, if he decides to climb. I plan on keeping the basking area about 8 inches or more from the top? I have read many threads and articles. I just want to do it right, it is an investment and I want to provide the best habitat I can. Hopefully, I can get it all straight and figured out. That is the plan before I purchase a chameleon. Nothing but the best, the same as I treat my other animals. Thanks in advance for reading and commenting. I look forward to being an active member in the forum!

I like my tropic blaze dual t5 fixture,it's pretty slim and puts good light out for cham and plants, plus the bulbs only need a 1 year replacement. Pair it with Acadia bulbs which are included with this fixture when you buy it.Canvas chameleons, or light your reptiles, both sponsors here have them available for sale in various sizes etc.

Hi welcome to our forum. Glad to see you taking everything into consideration before the purchase any chameleon lucky enough to get you as his/her caretaker will be lucky indeed. I personally think you would be ok with the light you have I believe the heat from the light will mostly be aimed downward. However if the best is indeed what you are seeking you can't go wrong with talking with the folks at light your reptiles they will certainly take care of you, and point you in the right direction. Good luck!:)

thank you. My main concern is the mini dome light. Because it is so close to our ceiling . I doubt it will be an issue but my husband is stressing out. I can't blame him. :). I just want a back up idea just in case. Thank you for your reply.

You could always set it up under supervision, and if it starts to feel too hot then you would know it's not feasible.
Indeed. That was my original plan. I don't think it would get too hot with a 50-60w basking light and maybe a 40watt blue moonlight bulb. Just trying to appease my other half. :)
