hey guys,

A newbie on chameleon world. Had done some reading on chameleon husbandry and etc. Name is Yong from Malaysia and just wanna say hi and also get some advised from the gurus.

I curently got 2 chameleons. i housed them in a mesh terarium and has u live plants and several fake plants. I have a smal waterfall with fogger and also a terra monsoon mister for watering. I am feeding it with super worms, meal workms and cricket dusted with vitamins from exo terra. Light wise i had solar glow which is turned on everyday from morning to evening. Few times a week, I will bring the plants and chameleon out for sun bathing. As I live in a counrty with warmth and sun at all time, cold weather and tempreture is not an issue.

Some question I have.

I have read that the chameleons are solitary animals, shouldnt be mixed. But, as far as mt observation goes, i have veiled and senegal housed together without any issues for the mas month. Is it because the are still young ? Or they can just get along?

The senegal has sign of worms visible on the skin about where the ribs are. After consulting the vets, they gave her some liquid, but doesnt seem to work. Please advise my next course of action. Note that the senegal has excellent appetite and active.

the veil chemeleon does not seen to favor food after a month. i have placed a small container with crickets and worms at the bottom of the terrarium, but he doesnt seem to be to intersted. But when i have him out on the open, he eats up all the jumping spiders, bugs flies and etc. I cannot find bugs everyday for the veil. what shoudl i do?

Im open for suggestion and criticism. Please find attached pics of my setup and 2 cham.

They are solitary animals. I would separate the two as soon as possible. what happens is one will be dominate of the cage furnishings while the other will be submissive and literally dwindle away to its death. This can happen without the signs of aggression to each other. This is more than likely the cause of the veileds appetite issues.

I dont have any experience with treating or removing these subcutaneous parasites but from what i hear they are very hard to get rid of and will need to be removed manually. I dont know how contagious these worms are either...I dont believe these show up on a fecal but has either had a fecal to be sure they are free of any other parasites??

Be more specific on the exoterra supplements. which ones? Please fill one of these out to be sure everything is good. https://www.chameleonforums.com/how-ask-help-66/

ok well keep them apart and work on ridding parasites. tell the vet your concerns on it not improveing and ask what else can be done. Im not shure what resorces you have but your setup doesnt look bad at all(without reading your entire entry)

what do you dust with?

i dust it with multi vitamin from exo terra.

still not eating... if u see the pictures, are my feeding container too low? i saw my cham eating a meal worm the other day .... so i know ... she knows where the foods at. but doesnt seem to be eating. But once i bring her outside .. she loves to cling on my hand while we look for insects and eat the insect once the range is right. Can see her ribs . not sure if thats normal or she is skinny. oh .. shes all bright green, nothing yellow or brown or black indicating stress ...

Just for sharing, i own germans shepherds, parrots, iguanas. .. Yes .. im a very keen in pets.

something im pondering on... as i live out in an area where its average temp is at 31C in the day n 29 at night all year long, can I put the chams in an outside cage? Where as they will get large doses of natural sunlight, and bugs to eat. Would i still need the lights since they will be exposed to the sun everyday? my bird house has an extra room which mesures 3ft x 5ft x 7.5ft ... can i house two chameleons together?

not the picture attached and the room beside the blue & gold macaw is empty - ofcourse I will blank off the view to the bird to ease the stress. would that be a good idea?its outdoor, its spacey, and free bugs ! what do u think?

Welcome to the forum and nice Zoo you have there.

The main problem is the night time temperature drop in your area. We have the same problem here in Hong Kong, where the summer nights hardly cool down.

Best is to have a temperature drop of around 10 degrees fahrenheit at night.

after few frustrating days, the veil cham finaly ate. Although it took 2 superworms .. its a good start. This is after I have seperated the veil and senegal. i now need to but a whole lotsa stuff to accmodate the senegal. Mind the experts on the thread, if anyone can advise if i can put both in the same bigger cage (outdoor) as per my post before .. i would highly appreciate it. Or do i need to obtain new screen cage for the senegal?

You will need separate cages for sure. If not the veiled will eat the senegal at some point or at the very least stress it out enough to kill it. You should be able to keep them but without much trouble outside if you can get a good misting system going and heavily plant the cages. The plant respiration will provide you will a good temp drop.

Montium,

ths for the advise,, im plannign on it now ... i am thinking about seprating the cage into two sections outside. but another problem is, i have parots as their neigbours .. and they are noisy, clumsy and very very interractive 9moving around all the time. is it a good idea to place the chams as their neigbour? what do you think? will the bird stress them out? or will they be ok and ignore them once they know the birds would be able to reach them?

Hard to say. I did see your parrots, I have some as well but have never had them very close to the chams before. If you divide the cage you may want to consider a sight barrier for the chams at a minimum. You can always monitor their reactions the the birds and see how it goes. If they are feeding normally you should be fine. The more places the chams have to hide the less stress you should encounter. Good luck, that's a nice collection you have and I love the bird enclosures.
