New Trioceros perreti

Just a quick update:

Both are drinking a ton, but I've only seen them eat once. The female did not eat all of her crickets from the first day, but it appeared the male did. I gave them more today but they were more interested in drinking when I put the crickets in their enclosure

What size of enclosures are you keeping them in and how are they planted?

Blue bottle flies are a good choice feeder to start them off to eat/hunt in captivity.

They share a 18x18x24 Exo-Terra. They have a barrier in the middle, to make it around 9x18x24 for each.

As of now, there is a red-edged dracaena and a pothos in each side. I am going to Home Depot sometime this weekend to find a small schfflera to add as well; Lowe's did not have any.

You could go bigger than that. As well those two plants don't offer that much dive in escape foilage. You being located in Florida I would recommend going to one of your tropical nurseries and picking up a leafy plant if you can. Just my opinion LOL.

I'm aware that the foliage is not the best, but I haven't had an opportunity to get more, but I will this weekend. I work at a plant nursery, and I probably wouldn't get a plant from a nursery because of all of the pesticides and such used here in Florida.

Plants at nurseries can be washed of with disinfectants and repotted if your worried about pesticides. There are many great plants to choose from at tropical nurseries other than the ones sold at Home Depot or OSH. They give you a great selection to choose from and a more authentic look at chameleons almost as if they were in their natural habitat. You are going to require a bigger enclosure though.

More selection but also triple the price. Like I said, they will be getting more plants this weekend.

Sorry if I pissed you off. Tropical nurseries are a consideration not a requirement. LOL.

I'm not pissed off, I just know I can get the same plant for way cheaper at Home Depot, and the nursery I work at doesn't even have schefflera. My boss told me just go to Home Depot or Lowes because I want plants in pots that are smaller than the 1 gallons we use.

I use a mix of broad leaf plants for drinking off of and denser smaller leafed foliage for climbing and hiding. I dig up dwarf bamboo from my yard, as well as Japanese Knotweed. The knotweed still dies off in the winter even indoors, so I have to have some fill in plants for the winter. There are other plants I use that are not recommended for plant eating species like veiled so I don't want to mention them here. I even have ferns growing on the bottoms of some of the enclosures. I've even planted grass in them before. That got out of hand in a hurry though.

Actually a lot of times I don't like using Pothos unless it is the main plant in using because they just take over if I don't pay attention.

I'm hoping Home Depot has more than Lowe's, it was sad to see like no plants-- but understandable since it's the winter. I'm really hoping to get the schefflera, they always just do well for me and I like them :p

I finished adding some plants to the enclosure. The female is getting really big, and I can feel the eggs getting bigger too, about the size of jelly beans. I added a schfflera and a parlor palm to both sides so now they have different levels and perches.

The female's edema has cleared up, I'm going to assume that it was due to dehydration, becauase their urates are white as can be and it went away.

Interestingly, they either are not impressed by the crickets, or they're just not big eaters.

Yes, Chase that female looks just the tiniest bit chubby.:eek::eek:

But you love them, so getting eggs will be wonderful. I am glad you are enjoying them.

They don't like medium to large crickets, but they'll eat the small ones all day long. Like two to three week old crix.

Your female looks huge, btw. I'll take a guess at nine eggs.

You may want to consider some branches. Most of my chams like to travel on them and only use the plants to avoid me lol.
