Hello Just wanted to say thanks to bruce at cham paradise for soku my 7m old nosy be, ive had him since last tuesday, seems to be doing good, pretty shy still, got his cage cleaned yesterday and he only hissed twice lol. Today we saw him chewing on a branch i put in his cage from our apple tree. But he really only looks blue when he's sleeping, but during the day he is a darker greenish color? Tips are much welcomed I will post pics once he is a little more settled :);)

Tell us a little bit about your husbandry... What kind of setup does he have? What are you feeding? What are you feeding the feeders? What is your supplement schedule? Lol I know lots of questions but on this site noboday escapes the questionnaire after posting a "new to the forums" post haha

Well... as of now he is in a 20x12x18 screen enclosure. eating about 4 crickets a day, i feed the crickets apple peels, flukers orange cubes until i can make some homeade gutload. i mist him about 3 times a day, we keep him in our bedroom, which stays about 75 degrees, he has a 65w basking bulb, and a uvb light. 1 ficus plant, and some branches from our apple tree :) any other info you need? oh and i dust the crickets every other day with herptivite and calcium with d3.

Okay so to start you seem like you know what your doing but if I can throw in some tips... For starts for a panther that old they really need a larger enclosure of about 24"x24"x48" as panthers get rather large and need the open space... and for supplementation he really needs a schedule similar to this... Calcium WITHOUT D3 at almost if not very feeding, Multivitamin once to twice a month, and Calcium WITH D3 once to twice a month... By supplementing with D3 everyday it can cause over-supplementation and they get their D3 from their UVB bulb anyways... What type of UVB do you have... is it a 5.0? And as a fun thing for your little guy try getting different feeders like silkworms, dubia roaches, hornworms, etc etc they LOVE variety and if fed something too long may go on a mini hunger strike lol

But POST PICS!!! We LOVE seeing the new chams round here :)

Yes its a 5.0 :) and as for his dark greenish color during the day? Is that something to be worried about? I thought they were spose to be blue most of the time? Maybe he is too young yet too?

Hello, I am also in Montana. But I am out in the sticks of Havre. There are a few things you need to do differently. He needs a larger cage, by a year old he will need a 24x24x48, if it were me I would just move him to that now. Lighting needs to be monitored for temps. Most of us use a repti sun 5.0 tube UVB. The basking bulb should have the temp measured at both the top basking spot and what the temp gradient is down to the bottom of the cage. he needs to be able to decide what temp he wants to be in. You need a digital gage that measures both temperatures and humidity. Are you sure the branches form your apple tree are free of pesticides and parasites? Dusting schedule needs to be plain calcium with no d3 every feeding, with calcium with d3 used only 2 x a month, herptivite should be used only 2 x a month. For now just feed the crickets some kale, collard greens, or mustard greens until you have time to research gutloading. I know this is a lot of info but the faster you make the changes the better for your cham. I am also giving you a link to Jann's blog that covers veiled cham care which is about the same a panther care.

As for the dark coloring it could be one of many things, stress, absorbing more heat, etc etc... Try the changes being put forth and give him a week or so to acclimate to the changing environment and see if the color changes... Every chameleon is different so it may just be his coloration passed down from the pairing of the particular parents :)

also, i saw that you said hes only getting 4 crix a day...i would bump that to around 10-15...at that age he is still growing and you need to feed him essentially as much as he will eat...everyone else has commented on cage size, gutloading, and supplementing so im not gonna beat a dead horse, but changes should be made sooner than later...as for the coloration, Nosy Be's will throw green, to turquoise, to cobalt blue...this all depends on the bloodlines and age, your guy still has a lot of coloring up to do at 7 months (my ambanja is about 8 months and just started showing his colors over the past month)...post some pics when you get a chance and we can give you a better idea if its stress related or just his young resting colors...you should use the search option on the forums, there is a great wealth of knowledge available here and you can learn a lot...also you can find pics of Nosy Be's at different ages

ps - welcome to the forums :D
