Well I'm new to chameleons but not reptiles in general just thought I would introduce myself and my new chameleon. I'm currently working in Florida and bought this guy off Craigslist for my daughter doing well in school this year. When I get home I'm going to build a huge enclosure for him but for now I've pimped his pad in my hotel room.

And here's a pic of our dragon

Hello and welcome to the forums! Looks like you have a very nice Veild there! A few things I would suggest changing. That appears to be a red light shining down. I know the reptile stores sell them, but an ordinary white housebulb would serve your chameleon much better. It is truer to the color of the sun and more natural for them to bask in. Also, wood chips looks nice but they also pose a hazard for your chameleon whether it be accidental or intentional injestion. We have had many "accidents" on here in regards to this subject. Also, they will mold over time for the moisture from dripping water, misting, etc which is not a good environment. It is up to you, but I know you want the very best for your chameleon, so I thought I would mention these things to you.

Thanks, the red light is a mini halogen for nighttime Temps he has a regular basking bulb for daytime. Also when I feed him he eats from my hand. The chips are temporary untill I get him home in a couple of weeks, and build his enclosure with a Moss and soil bottom and real plants. Also the chips are holding moisture when I'm at work, the humidity in my room hangs around 30 percent or less so I need some help asides from a dripper to keep it up. Yesterday I bought a repti fogger but the fan is already messing up, I fixed it but I'll invest in something better when I get home.

Edit: I'm staying at a hotel so I need to do what I can to keep his Temps and humidity in check. I'm not a fan of substrate period. My dragon has a slate tile tank and the chameleon will have a real forest floor / vivarium setup when I get home.

@carol5208 can you point me in a direction of what plants and foliage I can and cannot keep in a large chameleon setup?

His day time Temps are around 85ish in the basking area and his humidity hangs between 50 and 75 percent. At night time his Temps are in the 70s and humidity drops to 40 or less. I put plastic around the bottom half of the tank to contain the fog a little better since this is a screened cage. When I build his new tank when I get home it will be a tall glass tank with open screen top and a ventilation system to keep fresh air around. I'll put a monsoon or mist king in with the fogger. I plan on having all natural vegetation in the tank and all systems on timers.

The most popular plants used are ficus, pothos, hibiscus and umbrella/shefelera. They will grow better with a plant light like 6500K tube light which you can purchase at home depot. Hibiscus are very hard to keep indoors as they are a flowering plants and almost are sure to die without a grow light. 70 is not too warm at night. That is a good temp. Don't use the wood chips at all and as stated by the other member, no lights at night and no heat unless your temps are going to get below 50 degrees.

I put Moss down over the chips and put a pathos in there which covers almost all of the bottom of the tank. The thing is that this is temporary and his enclosure is screen with a monsoon rs400 so I need something to catch the water untill I get home and build his acrylic home.

I do have one question though. With all these changes I've made to accommodate him inside my hotel room he has been darker than when I first got him. Do you think it's because he's not used to the new surroundings in his cage. The previous owner kept him outside and I can't do that here. At mid height in his cage his temp is 85 and 60 percent humidity. He seems to be hanging out in the middle near the guages, and since I've done this he's been a little more irritable also.
