New to the Forum and NEW to Chameleon Raising

Hello all, I have always been intrested in reptiles and arachnids, and I recently bought two baby (2mnths old) Veiled Chameleons a boy and a girl. I have had them for 3 weeks now and they are doing fine both had shed once in that time. My question is I am housing them in a big 100 gallon flexicage, with plastic and live plants. I have the automatic mister..and also employ Drip cups on top of the cage for the humidity. With the help of the 3 dome lights with 150watt dayglo, a ceramic heater and for night a black (moon light) and on the back of the cage I have a UVB tube. ANYWAYS the question is, as I know males are very territorial. Is it safe to house them together...it is a big enough space!?

cant say about size but unless it gets below 50 degrees Fahrenheit at night you dont need the night lamp

You'll need to separate them in a month or so...size of the cage isn't really the issue, its being able to see each other. One or the other will start stressing the other (isn't always the male) or outcompeting it for the best basking spot, drinking areas, refuge areas, etc. Plan for this now. You could set up another cage right next to the current one as long as their view of each other is blocked in some way. Chances are they were from the same parents or clutch if you got them together and you would not want to be inbreeding them. The male will want to breed and will stress the female a lot once they are mature.

Get rid of the night light. Chams see full color including the moon lights. Unless your room gets below about 55 F at night you don't need any light or heat at night. Chams need a temp drop of at least 10 degrees at night.

Welcome to the forum! I agree with carlton, I would separate them and make sure they cant see each other until they are ready to mate. I have made that mistake when i first started btw if thats your evo niceeeeee!

Hello there thank you for your quick responses, and my house does get very cold at night, here due to the central air. I will be buying a new cage ASAP, for now they seem okay together but, I don't want them fighting/ stressing and or inbreeding! forsure!! THANKS

And yes that is my Evo X.

Well, they are still OK for now so you have some time. Really, you don't need the night light unless the room temp drops below the low 50s F. If you are concerned about a drafty room you could always drape a sheet over it.

I keep the thermostat around 65 and with an isolating fan on low to keep air flow in the room cause i keep the door closed at night.

Very nice I used to own a 03 evolution GSR god that car was alot of fun!

I would say yes, you should separate them not just yet though wait about a month or so before you do. Like you said, the males are very territorial and you don't want anything bad to happen to your chameleons. Hope this helps!
