New to Dubias

So I just bought 1000 Dubias and have a few questions. 1. Whats the best method to feed them, put them in a cup or just let them roam around his cage? 2. Can they harm my chameleon if I just put them in the cage? 3 Dose any one in the S.L.C Area need to by any roaches, I just bought 1000 for 70$. And the guy has alot more!!!! Once again thank you for all of your imput!:D
 
Oh I for got can you alson feed the Madagascar Hissing roaches as well, he gave me like 50 of them for free.
 
I use a coffee can lid. I put food inside the lid and put the lid in the roach container. They crawl in the lid and eat the food.
 
Roaches make an awful feeder when it comes to delivery lol

Everything else about them is great, but you cant just release them in an enclosure.

They will only hide, and stay hidden until nite.

You can put them in a cup, or bin, and feed them that way, but they will be very still, which wont draw the chams attention. Some have had success with putting a cricket in with the roaches. The cricket walks all over the roaches, causing them to move about. The cham may just eat the cricket though, and thats it.

I have found the best way to feed them, is either by hand, or placing them on the screen, near the cham. They will start to scurry off to hide, ideally in an upwards direction, and the cham will can pick them off.

Sounds like you got a good deal on them!

I am unsure about hissers.

I've found that by throwing a male in the mix tends to keep the rest active for just a little be longer.
 
I hand feed to my adults! But with baby Chams I cupfeed and toss in 50/50 Dubias/crickets! Crickets are a little more active and will stir up the roaches from sitting still. Eventually they will associate the lil brown knobs as food!
 
I found with mine that they are all different. One cham will immediately eat them out of the cup alone. Another must have crickets in it to stir them up for him.... And yet another I have to place on the screen. Just try different ways and see what works. They are not an easy feed... but they are a very nutritional feed.
 
I hand feed dubias. Kind of not so bad once you overcome the fear. Other than crix they have hooks and stay on your hand. Other than that try to let them roam but make sure they are placed close to the Cham if he is not hungry. If they disappear you will need to ensure they have enough dirt an bark to munch on before the next feeding.

:rolleyes:.. I try to not free-range my feeders unsupervised. They will munch on poop and other items that are not sanitary.
 
My Chams poop outside the cage only. Toilet trained. No boasting. Is true. I will post a vid next time.

No bs. Have posted this many times. They get very nervous in the morning. Coming to the gate and want to get out. Crawl a few times on either me or my kids and then take a poop. Weird. I know but true. Our Ambanja is the worst. If I am gone for the day or on biz trip he won't poop at all until I am back.

Lucky you:). I only stated the obvious because you are giving advice to the OP, who may not have a toilet trained Cham!
 
Hisser nymphs are fine to feed. The adults have spiked legs that can be harmful to your Cham while trying to chomp it down, plus they can grow to about 3.5"+ and not sutiable for all Chams. So just feed off the nymphs.

If you are going to cup feed. Place the cup near where your Cham is active most ( for me this is near the basking lamp)

Lil video i made this morning for you at feeding time. Usually when i dust then and shake the cup to coat them, they tend to move around a bit longer (i guess trying to get some of the powder off themselves).
