New to Chameleons

I was speaking to a friend of mine this week and he was mentioning he's starting to breed chameleons. So, I started to ponder on the idea myself. I've read the sticky post, but still have some questions.

1st: Can anyone steer me to a non bias article providing information about breeding chameleons?

2nd: How often do they breed? I heard every 3 months.

3rd: What's the complete growth time between egg to full grown?

4th: How much do the eggs, juvenile, and full grown chameleons go for?

5th: What's the demand for chameleons?

Thanks. I'm not trying to get rich, I'd be happy if I just made a little extra cash, as a side gig.

it is NOT something you get into to make money, IMO
you start with a love for the animal and work from there. even very knowelgeable keepers can have a hard time breeding, and often after all the costs you are lucky to break even.
if you want a side gig, Breed feeders ( BUGS )
welcome to the forum as well

Are feeders easier to breed, less time, and more profitable?

I have an aquarium, and a heat lamp...

and like I said I'm not looking to become rich.

Thanks for the welcome!

feeders are very easy, and can be very profitable. things like hornworms are like a dollar a pc in many places.
but i feel making money of any living thing is alot of work..
and if your friend is goign to breed chams then he will bneed to buy LOTS!!! of bugs.:)

Welcome!

Do you currently keep chams or any other reptiles? Just curious as most ppl start with keeping a cham then work up to breeding because they love them so much and want to help better the captive bred populations.

The eggs can take from 6 months to a year from what I have seen on here to hatch. Most ppl do not recommend selling eggs as moving them too much can kill the embryo. Price wise with chams a lot of it is in the name/reputation of the breeder and the chosen locale you are breeding and the breeding stock that you have.

I don't breed so I wont get into too much, there are a lot of excellent ppl on here to talk to. Just make sure you are breeding for the right reason. We all HATE PetSmart/PetCo for selling sick, mistreated chams/critters just so they can make a buck. Dont become one of those! :D

Hello and welcome to the forum. Am I correct that you don't even have a chameleon yet? If you are getting them just to breed, you are tossing away a good bit of money. The initial set up for one chameleons will run several hundred dollars if done correctly double that amount for 2 so you can breed. If it is not done correctly would would not have a chameleon that is healthy enough to breed. The cost of a cham depends on what you buy. They run from $80 to $100 for a veilded and up to $2,500 to $3.500 for a parsoni. Because of the money to breed, raise and sell chams, the only ones making much money are the big time breeders with store. The rest of us just hope to break even when we breed. We do it to support our hobby not to make money because you don't. There is a thread discussing the cost of babies. enjoy

I do not own. How does the feeder breed work? I mean do you just go buy a bag full of pinhead crickets and they just breed on their own with a health diet?

Is there a website to meet feeder breeders?

and I did start would anyone in the Florida area be interested in buying?
