New Set-up

Hi, Chameleon world! I have been wanting a chameleon for a really long time and have finally decided to take the plunge. I have bought a setup kit from one of my local pet stores but in hindsight should probably have done some more research...

Included within the kit was :
- A repti breeze vivarium
- Two large reptile safe pieces of wood
- Three artificial vines
- A bag of bark substrate (which I haven't put in as I thought it could harm my Chameleon)
- A book on Chameleons
- A dome fitting for the light and the light bulb (see picture)
- Some Zoo meds reptivite vitamins with d3

I have ordered separately
- A thermostat and humidity measurer
- Some live Chameleon safe plants (they have not arrived yet)

Please could someone advise me on what they think of this setup kit and what else I will need? Also, i have read that giving d3 all the time isn't great for my chameleon so i was wondering what other vitamins work for your chameleons?

i have added a picture on my tank set up any comments on that would be really helpful as well.

Please note I have yet to buy my chameleon but was hoping to purchase a male veiled chameleon

What size is that cage? It looks awfully small. You will want a 2x2x4ft

What are you going to mist with? A hand mister or aumatic mister? Keep in mind that chameleons dont drink from bowls.

For supplements you will want a plain phosphorus free calium with no d3, a multivitamin with preformed vitamin A, and a calcium with d3. You supplement with the no d3 everyday but 4 times a month (lets say you choose Sundays) and then alternate each "Sunday" between the multivitamin and the d3 calcium.

Also you will want a long linear t5 bulb for your UV. A 5.0 or a 6% if going with arcadia lighting.
The basking bulb can be a regular old-fashioned incandescent lightbulb.

Good call on the bark, leave the enclosure bare bottomed. It is easier to clean.

There is a ton of correct info on this site. There is a resource tab in the top left that will take you to a care sheet specific for veiled. You can also use the search bar and look up almost anything you want to know.

Good luck! And dont be shy, ask as many questions as you can think of. Good for you for doing research before you have your little dude.

Welcome to the jolly world of Chameleon Keeping and the forum!

As far as the reptivite with D3 you got that would be your multivitamin and D3. This one is only to be given 2 times a month every other week. Then you need a calcium without d3 for all other feedings. Lightly dust feeders and then feed. This is the supplementation for a veiled or panther only.

You will want to do away with the fake plants. You can use Veiled tested plants from this list and most home improvement stores carry them in their nursery.

I was thinking just a hand mister? I will add that to the list of other things I should get

Thank you for all the advice on the supplements I will defiantly be getting some more without D3 for everyday use

Great thank you, I will get another light.

Thank you for all the help :)

I hand mist. Nothing wrong with that. You just have to make sure you stand there the entire length of time. Lol

I thought this was true, but wasn't confident enough to suggest it. Thanks!!
