Hey my first thread but I've been using this site for research for months, very informative. I purchased my first chameleon 1 week ago and want to double check on my lighting and supplements. He's about 4 months old nosy faly. I was swayed by the guy at the herp store that the exo Tera solar glo serves as both the basking and UVA, yet everything I confirm on here suggests 2 separate lights. Also, same guy suggested repashy super food calcium plus and vitamin in 1. Are both of these sufficient? Want this guy to stay healthy, so far looking and eating good. Little disappointed he went from happy to be handled to not having it in a week. Oh well I'll keep hand feeding :eek:and working w him if he wants to he will. Thanks in advance for any help, the members on here seem very knowledgable and helpful especially for a noob like me.

The repashy calcium plus is all in 1, daily suppliment.

I prefer to havea linear fluorescent uvb light that spans the whole enclosure and 1 basking spot that is lit by uvb and light bulb for heat. The linear uvb will allow them to chill anywhere and get the uvb they need and not be forced to sit under the heat to get it if they wish to be cooler and chill vs heat up all the time.

The cham needs varied temperature zones and sometimes they may just want to bask under the uvb itself.

Thanks for the info. I know the superfood is all in 1 but I've read about calcium and d3 overload and was just worried about that. I dust the crickets daily w that and just want to make sure is alright. Thanks!

it is supposed to have a very low amount of D3 and vit A so it's is supposed to be okay for daily use. I personally have the 3 different supplements and a UVB linear reptisun.

You should also start breeding roaches :D They are awesome and will sace you a lot of money on feeders. I have a tank of Blaptica Dubia and a tank of madagascar hissing cockroaches. You feed the babies off and they are SO easy to gutload because they will pretty much eat anything. They don't stink, the Dubia don't make noise (the hissers will only hiss if they feel threatened), they don't bite, the dubia can't climb glass (hissers need petroleum jelly spread along the top portion of the tank), and they breed so easily! Also very nutritious and the best main feeders.

That's going to be a HARRRD sell for the wife but I like it. I'll keep em in my shed away from her lol. I will.cerrainly look into it, thanks for the insight. The crickets are breaking my bank, didn't think they would add up like they do!

tell her they are beetles dont tell her roaches.. only refer to them as dubias. ;)

I'd like to go the way of the Dubia's, but in my wife's opinion...a roach is a roach is a roach.

She'd take out the can of RAID if she saw a roach in the house!

It's bad enough that I have a cricket jump out of my hand from time to time.

We probably have a breeding population somewhere in the walls by now as it is...lol

roaches don't jump :D and they can only live where it's hot all year.

Mom won't allow it either.

My mom freaked out when we told her about breeding the dubias lol. She got my dad on her side and they both told me I would pretty much not find my panther chameleon in his cage and instead he would be outside left to go where ever he wants. Thankfully they won't do something like that. :)
