View attachment 94209sup everyone, I'm a new member and owner of a pair of Jackson's chameleons that I ordered from undergroundreptiles. I just received them and they're set up and everything so far. As for the feedings I'm starting a routine of calcium (no d3) twice a week, calcium with d3 2 times a month and reptivite 2 times a month. I know I'm not supposed to keep them together but this is just temporary until I set up my second enclosure. They have already started drinking. As for diet I'm feeding them crickets, mealworms, superworms, and waxworms (as a treat). Here are some pics of there set up and the pair. Any advice is much appreciated. Oh and they are housed in a
1 1/2 x 3 ft. diy enclosure. For Lighting I am using a regular 40 watt soft white for basking and a reptisun 5.0 uvb bulb. I have already done the basic research on care and housing. I would just like to know any recommendations from fellow chameleon owners. thank

I think you want to revise your dusting a bit. Calcium with no D3 lightly every other day, ReptiVite once a month to 6 weeks. Montane species like jax are sensitive to vitamin overdosing. What will you be gutloading your insects with? You are better off gutloading your feeders very well and reducing dusting that contains added vitamins.

Maybe it was the picture angle, but the female at least looks pretty dehydrated (her casque is very concave). Make sure your cage humidity is over 60% and be sure she can drink as much as she wants each day. Your cage size is a bit small for them as adults. Don't wait...separate them as soon as you can.

as for gutloading I'm giving them carrot and grapes at the moment. I'll probably go to the grocery store to get some turnip greens, and some other stuff tomorrow.
and it was actually the lighting because her casqu.e is not that concave. her head is just like the male

With my jackson I notice the more care I take in gutloading the better she looks- the best thing I ever did for her was to let my daughter get a bearded dragon as the crickets get better leftovers. I was using "bug burger" and trying to get a good mix from the receipt on here but found the bug burger goes bad too fast and I always was missing a key ingredient or two for homemade so I went with "cricket crack" switching it up with homemade for dry.
Mine loves blue bottle flies - which I use the "fly food" to feed them with before giving them to her and she likes silk worms and phoenix worms also- she does have a tendency to turn her nose up for certain feeders one day and love them the next week (while turning her nose up at what ever she was eating fine the week before)
With jacksons you have to be careful reading what's in the calcium - there's a brand out there that has a picture of a jackson on it that has D3 in it- given too often it would kill a jackson.

A little off topic but- If you want to see something very entertaining, you should offer a few to your daughter's bearded dragon when it is an adult. Bearded dragons love flies and watching them snap them out of the air when they fly by in the terrarium is really fun.

Been there done that - but I should have waited till she got a little older she did a flying leap off her basking tree trying to get one the first time - my daughter gets annoyed with me because the screen on her cage isn't as fine as it could be - but she does love it when grandma gives her treats
