New noseybe panther hatchling help!

Hi, I’m Kayla. I’m new to this group. I just got my hatchling noseybe yesterday morning. I ordered from cbreptile, he hasn’t ate yet. I know this can be normal with him adapting and getting use to the cage and he might be a little stressed from the move. I just wanted some advice about attempting to feed him. I emailed the owners from Cbrreptile and they said I can take him out and put him in a container with the bugs so he can eat but I don’t want to stress him out too much or force him to come out. He doesn’t want to come out when I place a stick in there and see if he’ll crawl on it. I also have a hanging dish in there I put a superworm but he hasn’t moved from the plant I have hanging in the corner. I’ve also tried putting the superworms in a different cup and held it near him and he didn’t want, as the owners said they raise them free roam and don’t like being hand fed. I have him in 2x2x4 I know this is big and it would be too hard for him to hunt in it, I’m not sure what to do.

Are these too big for him, I know it should be the size in between his eyes but I just wanted to make sure. These are bigger then his head, he’s just so tiny. I’m getting some pinhead crickets today hopefully and some silkworms.

He also has not basked at all, as soon as I put him in the cage yesterday he hung underneath the uvb light and shed then went and hid in the plant that I have hanging in the corner, he’s been there since. I have a mistking and I’ve seen him drink off the leaves but I really need some advice about the feeding and why he’s not basking at all.

There is usually an adjustment period before they get comfortable and start eating. I noticed you said “hatchling”, can you send pics of your little guy. A breeder should never sell a hatchling, the feeders may be too big. Also, pls send a pic of your entire enclosure with the lights included.

I posted the pictures, sorry I don’t really know how to use this

Set up looks pretty good but that is a very small chameleon...how old did they say it was? You will probably need to raise the lights off too. What are your temps? IMO you need to get fruit flies and some pin head crickets for feeders. Also, you want to watch the supplementing. By just the look of it being so small you don’t want to over supplement. You might need to put it in a smaller enclosure. Hopefully more members will chime in. @kinyonga @Beman @Hashtag ChamLife @Redman

They didn’t give me a specific date only that hatchlings are 1-3 months old. I should raise both of them or mainly the basking? The bottom of my cage is at 76 and the basking area 83. I have the flies but they’re so small they can just get out of the cage. They say to put him in a container and feed him cause the crickets will just fun and hide in this cage as well. I just don’t want to over stress him.

I know panthers tend to be smaller but I’m thinking your little guy is closer to a month old. Moving him back and forth for feedings is going to be extremely stressful for him. Yes, the bulbs need to be moved/raised, since he is able to get right up under it he’s getting very high uvb exposure and if he moves under the basking bulb he will likely get a thermal burn. I’m trying to think of what you can do to modify the set up instead of putting him in a smaller enclosure. ?

The bottom lifts up and perhaps OP can do that to make the enclosure shorter. Adding some more branches is a good idea too.

If he is under 3 months old simply not using a basking bulb is an option as well. You need to raise the UVB and the basking though. He is going to roof climb constantly. This is just what babies do.

What type of UVB are you using? IS it a T5 or T8 and what is the bulb strength?

Heck I don't know I almost feel like it would be far better to set this baby up in a bin. He is so young.... @AmandaS @janjan20 What do yall think? You have more experience with this age group then I do.

It really depends on how old he is. If he is big enough to eat cri kets from a cup, or small enough to be needing to eat fruit flies from a tote(bin).
He looks big enough to be able to eat small crickets and bsfl. I would raise the t5 (assuming that is what you have) and raise the basking bulb (if you use it at all) a few inches off the screen.

All my knowledge (which is sparse) is on veiled chameleons.

I would not, in the future, buy from cbreptiles. They are a massive flipping business and have large numbers of numerous reptiles. I would go with a specific breeder.

thank you for the help! He hasn’t ate with me yet, I just picked up some crickets and tiny superworms. Cbreptile has fed him 1/8th in crickets.
