Whats up Forum,

I've been reading on here for a few weeks and love all the info I have read. This is my first post. My plans are to get a panther chameleon (ambilobe or nosy faly, seems hard to find?) in a few weeks. I've been looking online at places listed here and google. I'm leaning towards screameleons or KK, if that makes a difference. Anyways, I have brought a screen cage (Zoomed 16x16x30) that I got off craigslist ($40) It came with some fake plant and a flexi-type vine that bends. I have added two live plans and a plant stand I have had around the house. I also got some sticks from outside where I live (Dallas, TX). I have read on baking them so I did that this morning just to be doing something. The plants are a Golden Pothos (on stand) and a Dracaena (bottom). I plan to get river rocks to put on top of the soil which I re-potted this morning(miracle grow) I got a clamp lamp (utility light) from home depot (5.5 dome type). I plan on using a old black light fixture I had laying around the house for the uvb light I plan to get (reptisun 5.0) Thats pretty much it so far. I so have a question about the "flexi-vine". I washed it off today along with the fake plant and noticed pieces of the vine comes off. after it dried it wasn't bad though i guess.
Sorry so long but I wanted some of you guys input on my cage and some tips if any. Planning on buying him by Jan 2012. Thanks and I look forward to being a part of this forum.

Welcome!

Aren't you just great for planning everything out so. The lives of chameleons would be so much better if everyone were like you and not like me....

Your set up looks good, you seem to be right on track.

Hello, welcome :) It all looks nice from here.......good work. What's your plan for misting/ dripping?

Wow thanks for the quick reply's and welcomes. My plans are for the $100 Mistking and a cheap dripper i seen on these reptile sites. Is it ok to use both at the same time? I also seen a $12 Temp/humidity electronic gauge at walmart last night. I'm thinking about picking it up, or is it better to use the one with the probes?

Hi welcome to the group.it sounds like you are working your plan, that is the way to go. I buy the temp/humidity Gage's at Walmart, but I get the ones with the probe.helpful hint, put the probe in the cage a lay the base outside the cage after you put it in a ziplock bag. Water gets on mine by magic.
What size panther are you getting? I assume a baby because that cage won't be adequate for a very big panther. Both places you are looking at have great chams. I will be waiting to see pictures.

Yes, you can use both, I haven't got a mistking myself (my hand mister is called 'Sir-Mists-A-Lot'). A dripper as well means constant access to water.

Cool thanks for the info. Yes Im trying to get everything BEFORE I get him. I plan on getting the smallest I can buy, which looks like atleast 3 months ( do they sell them before then?) My whole thing is wanting to see him change from no colors to some. I will document each step of his growing process. My focus now is getting everything I need so I wont run into any suprizes. I'm really dumb when it comes to feeding. I have read on gut loading and supplements for him . Where can you buy good live food for him? I would probably like to buy locally but if not I can order online. What do you keep his food in until he eats? Any links would be so helpful. Also whats a good supplement schedule to keep him on? Thanks for all the help so far. If you need to be rude and say " Use the search idoit" - Please do so! lol

I got Reggie, blue barred ambilobe, from screameleons and couldnt be happier so far. just got him like 2 months or so ago. He is my first and only chameleon so far, definitly planning on getting another one. I bought the ultimate setup from them, which worked out fine, even if it was a little expensive. My point is if you buy from screameleons you should be pretty happy and well off.

Thanks Graanto! I have heard nothing but good things about them. I have been on their website and seen all their youtube vids. Seems nice! Im really looking for a Nosy Faly ( the white/ blue with red spots on him) It dosent seem like they are easy to find. If not I want an ambilobe. I see right now that screameleons are a little low on males. Hopefully they get some more in by the time im ready to buy....

I noticed that too. im not really equipped for another chameleon but I was really tempted to get one the available nosy be while they have them :D.

I forgot to add, I do you both a mistking and dripper s. The drippers are 1 gallon milk jugs with a pin hole to drip very slowly all day. My mist king goes off 5 times a day 5 minutes each time. I have a second mist king on my mellers, in addition the the regular one. He needs more water so he gets an additional 20 minute misting 5 minutes after everyone gets the first misting. I think a dripper and 45 minutes a day should be a good misting for a mellers. But I am new to melleri so I have to work at it. Even if you have everything perfect before your new arrival gets to you, be ready to watch so you see if anything about him changes. You watch and report and we will offer ideas. That is how it works here.

Sounds good! So with the dripper, should i have something to catch the water? or does it drip into the plants? I would imagine the cage may get wet up. Also is there a way to over mist? I know i would probably have shorter mist times due to the smaller cage.

you may want to make a frame for the cage to sit on so you can drill small holes on the bottom, then sit all that ontop of a low profile tupperware to catch all the excess drips of water..keeps everything from getting too wet..

p.s. I think its awesome you plan to have everything set up and gain knowledge "BEFORE" you get yer chameleon.. :D:D:D

p.s. the faly will not be cheap (400 or so to 700) ambilobe (220-350)..

i love my male blue bar ambilobe..looks great..

Yes I think knowing as much as I can BEFORE I buy ! I think waiting and getting alot of knowlege is better than rushing out and getting him to end up with a sick/dead Cham. I also am confused about the whole red bar/ blue bar. Whats the difference, Im sure it deals with the coloration. Also which one do you suggest. Your boy looks good! I dont mind spending $400 but not upto $700 lol, thats out of my range but I cant find any online. I been searching the classifieds on here. Any good breeders on here? Just trying to weigh my options......

Seems like you did your research and got everything sorted out wayyy before getting your Cham. Good Job and Welcome!
