New kind of rescue chameleon

Just got a 3 year old panther chameleon from a friend of a friend. I have another that is thriving. But I wanted to get some advice on this one. The previous owner never once gave vitamins and only dusted with plain calcium 1 time a month. Also never gut loaded feeders. Should I give extra vitamin dosages to start? I use reptivite. He keeps his left eye shut for all but about 5 minutes a day. He also has terrible aim.

Hi. It would be a good idea to take him to a vet who has experience with chameleons, who could evaluate if he needs any special supplements. Often vets will give animals with mbd some supplement injections to get them started and then a special liquid calcium to help get them on track. I’m attaching the list we have of vets who members have found to have good experience/skills with chams. Often a bit of travel is needed, but worth it for a good vet. Put the cham in a dark box and they usually just fall asleep.
Until you can get to a vet, just start on a regular supplement schedule…no extra.

There is definitely something going on with the left eye. I’m not a vet though and can’t give you a proper answer as to what though. Sorry.
He seems to have something going on with his knees too…and I’m wondering what’s happening with some of those discoloured reddish scales too…might be nothing…might need to be addressed. Sorry I can’t be of more help. Hope you get it figured out.

The skin patches could be thermal burns. Most seem to be where a too-hot basking bulb (and a cage without a decent temperature gradient forced him to bask too long too often) would hit. There's also a patch on one side that looks a bit like one too, but would need to inspect closer up. Poor little guy! He looks pretty depleted, but I've definitely seen worse considering his malnutrition. I agree with vet check, eye exam, maybe imaging for bone density before shotgunning a bunch of supplements and meds all at once. Don't want to shock the system if his reserves are gone.
