New Imports.

I went to pick up some melleri that came in on the recent import this weekend. While there, I was picking through the stock and Janet and I came across this gravid female. The poor thing was trying so hard to isolate herself from the others in the cage. Her poor eyes were so full of debris she couldn't bear to open them.

Even though it was a gamble, I couldn't leave there without her. I felt completely awful for her and I just had to give her as best a shot as possible. The other two I got are spry and full of energy now, eating and drinking like monsters. I have been able to get the gravid female to drink very well and she has eaten too. The poor thing is just trying her best. She is all setup with a huge area to lay in, although I feel she is not at that point yet.

Everyone keep their fingers crossed for her!

Oh the poor sweet girl!! Shes just beautiful. She's so lucky you took her in and is in such a nice enclosure. Who knows what might have happened to her if you didn't. I hope she recovers well and lays those eggs.

Is that a pair you got?

Oh, you know my heart goes out to Melleri! Wishing you much luck with all your new arrivals and especially this female. Your set up looks great (of course)!

Thanks Deb. I am going to do all I can for her, keep your fingers crossed.

So the gravid female had been desperately trying to clean her eyes since Friday when we picked her up. Once I got her back home, she really tried cleaning them, but she just couldn't get it all. I had to step in this morning. I knew the stress of import and being gravid was only being exacerbated by the fact that she couldn't open her eyes. I flushed her eyes and have been gently pulling the debris away. Amazing how much junk was in her poor little eyes. I wasn't able to get it all yet, but I also didn't want to stress her for prolonged periods of time with my intervention.

Great news though, I was able to get enough out that she was comfortable opening her eyes and now she is really navigating her space. I'm going to keep doing all I can, so fingers crossed people!!

Fingers and toes crossed for this poor girl. My Melleri always appreciate rubbing their eyes on one of my fingers when they are shedding. They also let me rub the shed off behind their flaps. Only when shedding, however. Any other time, it's hands off! Again, wishing you much luck with this girl. Goodness, her poor skinny legs. . .

I know...right. I hate seeing an underweight chameleon. Hopefully she will bounce back! Thanks for the good vibes!

So the two sub-adults are really perking up. This video is one of them cup feeding for me. He misses a couple of times, but he eventually ate all of them! Glad to see their appetites improving! Sorry for the weird turn during the video....I thought I could edit afterwards....but I was wrong.
