:) Hello everyone - I am a newbie chameleon owner and I am soooo in love. He is awsome!! I am not a complete novice tho as I have beardies, leopards and cresties but this little fella is just the bees knees !

Anyway, as I want to get everything just right for him I will prob ask LOADS of questions!!! He came home with me yesterday afternoon but as of yet he hasn't eaten anything. I put small locusts in there with him (he is approx 8-9 weeks old so teeny tiny) but he hasnt shown any interest. He has loads of foliage and I have misted him several times today to keep up humidity (I also want to get a water feature to help with this in the next week.

He is in an Exo Terra large galss tank with mesh top and a uvb bulb (for the compact top) and a 25w heat bulb. I have registered temps with a radar gun thingy and in the 'basking' area it is around 91 and half way down the tank around 72. Obviously the bottom will be cooler still.

I got my husband to take all the locusts back out as he seemed to back away from them but I am about to dust them and put just a few back in. I have also tried a wax worm to no avail but it did seem rather large for him

Any help/advice on getting him to eat and general well being is greatly appreciated. I am hoping he is just 'settling in' but still worry!

Sorry for the long post - I seem to have rattled on a bit!

Thanks

Welcome! Chameleons are unlike any other reptile, so coming here and learning from other people's mistakes it he best thing you can do for him!

He probably is just still settling in, but as you are new it's probably worth filling out this form in as much detail as you can, just to help the more experienced keepers spot any potential problems:

Chameleon Info:

Your Chameleon - The species, sex, and age of your chameleon. How long has it been in your care?
Handling - How often do you handle your chameleon?

Fecal Description - Briefly note colors and consistency from recent droppings. Has this chameleon ever been tested for parasites?
History - Any previous information about your cham that might be useful to others when trying to help you.

Cage Info:

Cage Type - Describe your cage (Glass, Screen, Combo?) What are the dimensions?
Lighting - What brand, model, and types of lighting are you using? What is your daily lighting schedule?
Temperature - What temp range have you created (cage floor to basking spot)? Lowest overnight temp? How do you measure these temps?
Humidity - What are your humidity levels? How are you creating and maintaining these levels? What do you use to measure humidity?

Pictures are helpful

Mine (2ish months old when I brought him home) didn't eat well for a couple days. He would eat one or two pin crickets the first couple days. Now he eats 3-4 quarters twice a day.

If you have all the other stuff in place: dripper, temps, lighting, climbing sticks/vines, foilage to hide (feel safe in) and a cage that's not too big he should start coming around in no time.
