Hello everyone.. Just figured I'll introduce my self since I've been lurking the forum for a while now. My name is Becky. And my baby chameleon is Yasmin or as my 2 year old daughter calls her cute and my son calls her wizard lol. We've had her for about 3 months now. We aren't sure how old she is and aren't to sure if she's really a she. We bought her at petco and the guy who worked there didn't know nothing. I'm guessing she's about 3 months old and is a female since she doesn't have any spurs. She was so tiny. There were two at the time at petco. One was bigger then her. But she was the more feisty of the two. She is a veiled chameleon. I love the marking on her. Looks like she has a flower and a heart on her. She is in a glass terrarium with a betta fish(will post a picture). My boyfriend is making a screen cage for her but limited on cash at the moment. She eats like a champ. We feed her crickets and I spray her a few times a day. She's doing really good. I love her. I always say to myself she's better then the dogs we have. We have three pitbulls and one VERY FAT cat. I handle her the most. The kids have held her a few times with me watching them like a hawk. So thats that sorry if I rambled. Thats happens alot with me. I will post pictures of the lil girl. I love looking at all the different chameleons.

I have a question: Can anyone give me any info about breeding crickets??

Welcome, the addiction begins. Pretty soon you'll have a house full. You better get out while you still can. lol j/k Not about the obtaining more part though. You cant stop with just one. ;)

I wouldnt bother with breeding cricks unless you get more chams. If you buy in bulk you could get enuff to last you a month easy. In fact they'd get too large for her or die of old age before you could feed off prob 500. Cricks are smelly and a pita to raise I'd just buy in bulk. If you want to raise a good feeder, get a dubia colony started and start hatching silkworms. Both are great feeders and a great alternative to crickets. Dubia arent smelly at all and are easy too breed. Silks are kind of delicate but if your clean in handling them and their container then they are an excellent choice.

Welcome, she's defo a girl, and she has some good colours too! Nice pics, but if it was me I'd be worried she can get into the aquarium section.....is it totally sealed off now?

As for cricket breeding, I do for my 2 veileds, but it doesn't save much money. Put some compost in a plastic box, keep it damp, put 10 adult crickets in there with good gutload foods, calcium and dark green leafiness. Wait a bit. Easy.

First of all Welcome to the forums!! You mentioned that you have been lurking, so I am surprised to see that you have all that bark in the bottom of your cage. This is discussed frequently on here! That really is a hazard for your chameleon. If he eats in intentionally or accidentally, while shooting for prey, you are going to be in a world of trouble. The cage floor should be bare! Cannot tell you what to do, but please be aware that you are presenting a possible health hazard to your chameleon.

I will add my welcome also. I will go with your daughter and call her cutie. I am happy to hear you are getting her into a screen cage, it is so easy to overheat a baby in glass. As Carol said the bark can kill you baby. If it were me I would have it out of there today and just use paper towels. That is a lot safer for your chameleon.
