Hello all...Joe here...looking into getting into the exciting world of Cham's. Been lurking for a bit gathering some info...I'm sure I'll have some questions along the way. Grew up with snakes so definitely not new to the reptile world, snakes are gone and have always wanted to get a chameleon so here I am. Gathering info on enclosures, tank set ups at the moment.

Both species are awesome in their own ways. It's a hard decision. I am not sure if you have looked on FLChams, but he has some amazing Veiled blood lines that may have you rethinking the color situation. Can't wait to see what you decide. Have you got an enclosure in the works yet?

I just took a quick look after seeing your response. Wow, you're right...this decision is NOT going to be easy ugh lol. No enclosure yet, thats what I'm looking into now. Have been looking at different set ups for the past week. Taking a look on canvaschams now...Have any recommendations?

Whether you get a Veiled or a Panther, you will definitely need a 48x24x48in screen enclosure. Dragonstrand has some pretty awesome screen enclosures. Also, LLL Reptile has some that I have heard good things about.

Great...checking them out now. (y)

How often are chams cared for? And by that, I mean, how long can you go without actually having to feed/water/maintain...like if I go away on vacation does someone have to look after it daily? Every other day? I'm sure would prob depend on its stage of life as well?

When i went on my last vacation i had a friend go over once a day ( Preferrably a couple hours after they wake up ) to feed, mist, and replace his water. That is if your light is on a timer. If you do not have a timer someone would for sure have to go over and wake your cham up as well as put it to sleep. They're a handful at first but it's very easy to get used to :) hope i helped

If you have a baby cham i would recommend twice a day while you're on vacation.

Thanks for your posts CCA, definitely helpful.

On a side note, I'm really digging that cage I linked from dragon strand...is that a product made specifically by them or can I find that one at a better price elsewhere?

They are the only company I have seen make an enclosure with these dimensions. It is a killer enclosure though......

Speaking of baby chams, did some reading and they mention for baby/juvenile chams to use a smaller enclosure, so that its easier for them to find their food. Thoughts?

most keepers recommend smaller enclosures for the babies. it is easier to monitor them that way and if you are free ranging your cham's feeders then they have an easier time finding food as you said. if you want that huge dragonstrand cage you can section off a smaller area for your cham while it's still younger and enlarge it as he/she grows.

The smaller the enclosure the less variables that come into play. It is also easier to control humidity, heat, UVB exposure, etc. That is why most keepers place their babies in smaller enclosures to begin with.
