Hello everybody, just registered and figured I would introduce myself and say thanks as well.
I've had two chameleons in the past which both turned out with not so great results due to very little information being available at the time (1994 and 98). I've had various lizards, snakes and many other creatures through the years. Well I decided to try again and found a nice healthy small subadult Senegal chameleon which I purchased about a week ago. The cage I built myself is about 36" x 20 x 20 or so and completely screened. Basking light, 5.0 UVB flouro and drip system are all in place along with a nice potted cheffulera for the little guy(or girl). Feeding gut loaded crickets and wild caught insects collected from around my neighborhood. I'm lucky in that I live in a sub tropical climate with quality insects being available nearly year round. So I think I'm doing everything possible to have success with this new addition.
Tonight I noticed there was some white urea looking stuff hanging out but nothing more coming. He was also looking a little fat in the belly area. I've only seen one poop in the cage since I've had the cham. I immediately thought constipation so I did a little search and came to this site. Upon reading through the old threads regarding the same issues, I decided to try the shower technique. Turns out this chameleon hates water, he hides every time I mist the cage and likewise did not appreciate the shower at ALL. After seeing him get pissed I decided to try and do a warm bath in the sink. Well he was pissed again but after about 5 minutes or so trying to climb up the side only to slide down again and again he kicked that turd's ass! So thanks for the advice and information, it definitely helped at least one little guy out from a possibly bad situation. EXCELLENT site!
