If you have a single compact uvb light in that fixture I'd replace it for a single tubelight.
Them compact lights aren't ideal, especially not when placed in a vertical fixture.

Maybe I sould of been clearer to make sense... I meant spot where he basks, not the heatlamp.
Optimal distance from animal to uvb lamp is usually around 8" (20 cm).
You should check the packaging of the lamp, it may also tell lifespan of the optimal UVB productiom of the lamp.
