Hi all,
I am new to the site and new to owning my OWN chameleon. I know all about everything to keep them healthy and safe, but have never had one of my own, until now. Everything that I was ever taught, or learned about their attitude/temperament, has been completely changed. My girly is about a year old, and blind in one eye. She was given because the previous owner had a cat that was terrorizing her through the cage. She has apparently been blind in one eye since hatching, and is otherwise perfectly healthy. The eye seems better since I have her, and I think its because I mist her more and her nutrition is taken to a new level.

The thing that surprised me is that she LOVES to be held. She is happy in her cage, has a different hunting camoflouge (sp) than what she normally has, and is normally a nice happy pastel green. I open the screen and she looks at me, runs over (as fast as that silly thing can) and climbs onto my forearm and will sit there for hours. I know they like to get to the highest place that they can so they can see all around them, but she sits on my arm or hangs out on the front of my shirt, and stays HAPPY GREEN.

Everything I have learned previously has been that chameleons normally are not that friendly, but she is so sweet. I am just trying to see if anyone else has ever seen this behaviour or if what I previously learned is a misconception.

PS I named her Gypsy because of the creepy cloudy blind eye that you would see on a gypsy in a horror movie ie Stephen Kings Thinner.

Thanks all!

Sitting on my head, then climbed down to my shoulder again.

hey its nice to hear about your new cham!! I've had chams who didn't mind if i held them for a while but as they got older the the time they were with me kept decreasing. im sure they would much rather be on a tree or a plant than in you hand when they are been held for too long! good luck with you cham! and welcome to the group! they are the most amazing pets you will ever find!! pm if you have any questions or need any help with anything i would love to help!:D

Hola,

Welcome to the forum.

My cham runs to me as soon as I open the cage door, like he's excited. He loves to come out and chill.

Welcome to the forum and the world of chameleons!

Female veileds can lay eggs even without being mated once they are sexually mature and so they need a place in the cage to dig to show you when they are ready. Does she have one?

she has anywhere she wants to dig, she rarely goes to the bottom but if she did, she has coconut husk to dig in.

That may not be sufficient for her to lay eggs in. You should have a laying bin and it needs to be about a foot deep. Most people use a 12 X 12 container and fill it with washed play sand. the sand needs to be sturdy enough for her to tunnel a hole and not collapse on her. You know all about gutloading, supplementation, humidity, temps and lighting then???
