New Chameleon!

I just got a baby female veiled chameleon yesterday and she is about 6 months old. I have a lot of things in her cage but I think she needs more stuff to climb on. I was thinking of getting bird ladders and perches. I also wanted to get her a bird jungle gym and decorate it with plants. Would these be good ideas?

Put a live plant in there. Pothos or an umbrella plant (schefflera arboricola) will add plenty of climbing areas and hiding places while also helping to maintain humidity.

Is the red bulb for basking? Not using the red bulb at night right? Should be normal white incandescent if its for heat only. You should be able to find the appropriate wattage if you search the forums. Someone else will chime in to help with that.:D

What's the purpose of that tupperware in the bottom of her enclosure? If that's full of water, I highly recommended you get rid of it! That could be a big problem and she should absolutely not be drinking out of that.

Is your new chameleon a male or female?

I'm concerned about the dish of water to...she may drown in it if it is full enough. Putting something like screen over it would be a good idea if you need to leave it in.

If it's a red light you have on in the cage I'd replace it with a regular white incandescent household bulb of a wattage that produces the right temperature. No lights should be on at night if you are doing that.

Also since it's a veiled chameleon I would eventually replace the fake plants with non toxic well washed real ones since veileds often eat greenery and eating a fake one could lead to impaction.

Do you know about supplements? Feeding/gutloading insects?

The light is for basking and it does turn off at night. Thank you!

Basically ditch the red bulb for the better.:D:p

It’s a female. I’ll definitely put a piece of screen over the drip water bowl. The red bulb is a basking bulb and both the UVB and basking bulb turn off at night. I am getting real plants soon i just need to look for a place to find them and I am dusting and gutloading my insects.

Try walmart or home depot/lowes for plants they are cheap there and readily available.

Actually the plants from those places can be toxic because they’re grown with fertilizer. I would have to put then in organic non fertilizer soil for at least three months before I can put them in there. I am thinking about doing that but I might just get some that are already okay for her.

I will soon. Right now I will just have to use the red one.

Yes absolutely. I do it because there is no nursery near me and I wash and replace everything before I move them in also. Go with which ever is easier itd be great if you have somewhere to get them without having to go through that hassle.:)
