Hello,

This already I apologize for my English , because I'm from Portugal and I use translators is possible that there are several errors.

I bought two Trioceros hoehnelii , a couple, arrived last week to the seller and were only sent to me today. As soon as they came to open the transport box they were green , the male had a yellowish head, were good looking . So I set them in the terrarium , it was dark and she too, and there is that I noticed that they were dropping the skin.

They happily drink water, droplets have a system in place for both. But unfortunately I did not eat anything I give them crickets, inside the cup as you can see but pictures .

The couple I think are even WC. My problem is that it is the first time I have chameleons and begin to think that I will have problems since the beginning since they are not eating .

Does anyone have an idea what can I do? Already methyl crickets in a glass, and freed within the terrarium 1 or 2 crickets.

Else have the couple in separate terrariums , still not joined .

Carl,

Hydration is the key with Wild Caught, so it is GOOD they are drinking. You may not have access to all the food items I will suggest, but here are some ideas on food:

1) Overfeed right now; give them insects in cups and free range. More is better until they start eating. Feeders are cheap, chameleons are not.

2) Give them variety, worms like Super Worms, Hornworms, Locust, and silkworms may trigger more feeding.

3) Flying food is always a strike stimulator, Flies, butterflies, moths, flying roaches, and stick insects.

4) Sometimes crawling feeders placed on a branch will induce feeding more than in a cup. If you have a screen side to your vivarium, hang the crawlers on it.

5) Make sure the 2 chameleons cannot see each other, put a barrier between them. They will react to each other, and this can get them distracted from eating and settling into their new cages.

Hoehnelii need lots of water for drinking, and also require cooler temperatures. They are one of the most amazing looking chameleons available.

Welcome to the Forum, your english is fine!!

CHEERS!

Nick thank you.

I now put the cup both types of food they have, crickets and mealworms , so far did not eat anything, but only spent 6 hours here at home .

Had not really thought that they could see through the glass , I will put a division between them, thanks for the dip.

The only movement they did today was go to the drops of water and leaned against will UVB lamp .

After switching off the lamps and they have been a 2 or 3 hours a dark green color came back :) .

IN give more news soon , however if more advice thank a lot.

What is your room temperature?

What is your basking temperature (can you take the temperature on the surface of the branch they are basking on)?

They need the right temperature to digest the food, without the right temperature they will stop eating.

They also are adjusting to being captured and shipped several times, so they may start eating in the next couple of days.

Keep water dripping for them if you can most of the daylight hours.

CHEERS!

Good day,

The temperature inside the terrarium in winter is about 15°C / 20°C ( 60Fº / 70Fº ) during the day and at night 6ºC / 10°C (40Fº / 50Fº ), usually in the summer is that they are a bit high is about 30°C / 35°C ( 85Fº / 95Fº ) day and night 10ºC ( 50º / 60Fº ) , humidity inside the terrarium until now was kept between 80% / 90%. I

Regarding the branch I have to say the temperature , because at the moment I have nothing that can measure .

Today at lunch I'll put more food into the cup to see if in the afternoon they feed .

Thank for the help :)

Best Regards

Hello,

Have news, the female is eating, I put a mealworm in front of her, the third attempt finally got to eat it . As always I left full cup to see if they go there to eat , if not later , I again put her food at the foot of it again. she is curious also , I think we will stick with the name " Curiousa " ehehh

Compared to the male nothing , just want to rest against the maximum possible to the lamp , and is still with the dark color today, more in the evening I will try to change it in place, and put his food in front of him.

Let a female images :

Yes, but maybe it's not enough , he did not drop the lamp UVB , it is always leaning against it, is also the only that he has more access because the heating lamp incandescent 40W, he has no access.

She does not eat to the cup , I lose a lot of time to get her to eat something , I give it 3 or 4 mealwarms a day to see if it begins to feed himself .

The male forget , I can not put it to eat , since there will at least two days without eating, but drinking water.

Hello,

News, the female eats alone, but not in the cup have to drop the crickets in the terrarium .

Regarding the male finally figured out what was wrong with him , the lamp of 40W was not enough to warm it, put a 50W halogen , by seeing this improving, I have not seen him to eat but I am suspicious that ever eaten some crickets.

Soon let new photos.

Yours sincerely

Hello ,

The female is ok , loves to shower and eat crickets as a crazy . I love it ehehh .

As both the female and the male , I decided at the end of last week put them in a terrarium type "hospital" , smaller and easier access eaten , since they are WC , I think it has to get used to the new environment .

I began to catch flies and to give him, never saw him eat, but the fact is that they after a short time longer were there.

Today I first saw him eat a fly compared to the crickets affixed a lot of patience and experience, today for the first time I saw him eat one that was among the plants, I returned to the other in the same place and he ate, it seems he only eats crickets that are hidden, do not eat anything that is or cup or terrarium bottom, but it is a victory sees him eat crickets :) So far did not eat any mealworms or superworms.

The change of his skin this bother me and I think he is in pain , it seems that took a scalding, but little by little this to change the skin.

I leave a photo of them :
