Hello, I hope you can help. We are new keepers of Chameleons, this little fella is our 7 year old daughter's much wanted chameleon.
We picked up Rango yesterday, (we live in France, and it was just a French petshop) Rango seems amazing and has a great temperment. He is eating and drinking...but we notice he has a brown lump on the side of his mouth.
Looking on the internet this morning I have read about mouth rot - do you think this could be mouth rot, and if so what do we do??? I'd be grateful for any advice - thanks

sorry, just read I should complete this:
Your Chameleon - Yemen chameleon
Handling - only got him yesterday, handled for a few minutes
Feeding - crickets, he has eaten 3 today, plus a spider and a small fly
Supplements - the crickets have been dusted - they are being fed on beaphar (jelly stuff? )
Watering - misted with sprayer. fake plants, he has drunk
Fecal Description - no idea yet
History - don't have any history
Cage Info:
Cage Type - reptibreeze mesh, 40 x 40 x 46
Lighting - exo terra solar glo lamp
Temperature - not entirely sure yet
Humidity - not sure
Placement - top of cage is eye level, near a doorway
Location - central france

Current Problem - brown lump on side of mouth

Hi and welcome to the forums. It is hard to tell for sure, but it could very well be mouth rot. Can you get him to open his mouth and look in the inside? Usually the inside of the mouth in that area will be effected as well. If you have a reptile vet in the area, best is to have it looked at and they can decide if it is indeed mouth rot. They should then do a culture on it to see what kind of med to prescribe. Mouth rot will usually cause the lip to start to droop. It looks from the pic like it is starting to do that. I have attached one of our caresheets on here on everything you need to keep your chameleon happy and healthy.

Also I think you have a female there buy the markings. The way to tell for sure is by the back feet. The males have little spurs or points and the females do not. If you post a pic of the back of the back feet we can tell you if you have a female for sure.

There does appear to be a spur in the one pic you provided so I would say male. You can always post a few more pics if you can get them. I would take
your chameleon to a vet. Whatever that is on his lip it most likely is not going to go away on its own. You do not want it to get worse and spread further into his mouth. I cannot say for certain if it is mouth rot or not.
