New chameleon set up for 1st timer!

currently it is about 30 degrees celcius so was thinking of getting a stronger bulb as have seen 35 degrees is best? is this correct?

the humidity with the fogger on was around 72%.

Ok sorry, but im born and raised American. I have NO idea how to convert that to farenheit. do that and i will so tell if those temps are right! :rolleyes:

if it gathers water on the leaves, actual water droplets, then i would say let it run for about 3-5 minutes 3-5 times a day. (day only, nto at night when cham is sleeping)

I'm definitely all for the best interests of the chameleon! We didn't think that having the lights on in the evening would be any harm as there are a lot of dark areas (fogger makes it look more "flooded") would have turned off at night for it to sleep. now we know we will remove and put them on another plant as they do look very "cool"! lol :D

i have no clue how to convert.
so ill just say this...
for young panthers, say under 3 months- 80 F is a good basking temp.
you can raise the temp up to 85 maybe even closer to 90 F as he gets older.

right 30C is 86F and 35C (what I've seen to be a good temp from my reading) :confused: is 95F according to the converter i've used?!

the bulb must be hot enough for now then

95 is a bit high for a young panther.
id raise the bulp up some to reduce that basking temp to no higher than 85 for now.

as a side note-
gaping, mouth opened but not to eat or drink or hiss at you.
is a sign the cham is too hot.

ok will move it slightly higher as it is 86 at the moment.

I will be keeping an eye out for those signs!

Can't wait to get him now, but am glad we have a couple of weeks to sort everything out to ensure it is perfect for him! we only got everything today other than the bulbs which we sell anyway for the torts so are really pleased with how it looks already!

Dont worry, panthers are hardy species. they can take a bit of a mess upm like a temp to hihg for a bit.
they wont break!
but doing it first is better than jumping in head first (which is what i did)

well it's just like any animal really isn't it. you can never know all you need to before you get one! we're still learning with our tortoises but already know loads!

i def find these forums are the best way to learn as pick up tips from other owners! :)
 
Hi im in the uk too. I take it your using Lilly exotics! the cage looks great apart from whjat has already been mentioned. i would use the arcadia 12% as more light will get through the mesh. many people will not use nutrobel on panthers. i would be using pure calcium at every feeding, calcium with d3 twice a month and a multivitamin without d3 twice a month or as already mentioned you could get some calcium pluss from Nick when you pick up the panther. 86 is great for a baby and 90 is the hottest you need to go even for an adult.

Hey, I see you're also a fellow Londoner! Yes we are using Lilly Exotics, spent all day Sunday hunting around, nearly bought one from some shop in Manchester but it turned out they only had a female. Found Lilly Exotics at about half 9 in the eve just as was about to give up! have heard some great things about them already, there was a guy in Croydon from Croydon Reptiles looking for us too he was really helpful will be going there soon to pick up some bits, he knows Nick also.
Cool, glad the 12% will be fine that is what we were hoping people would say and will be using.
what heat bulb do u use? ours is only 60w. :)
