Just thought I would let you all know, we found an vet that is open all night and going to take her to it. She is awake but does not look happy. Also we are going to go out and buy a new bulb.

Thanks again for everything. We will post an update when we get back to let you all know how she is.

Unfornitaly, that is the bulb we have the zilla dessert 50. What do you recommend we do. It is also what the pet store sold us.
Howdy,

I want to clarify some details so that the store as well as the vet will understand what's up.

The most dangerous R-Zilla UVB tubes were the original Desert series 50 and to a lesser extent (but still very dangerous) the Tropical 25, both in a T5 tube size. The manufacturer essentially agreed with the research results presented to them by the UV Guide UK. It confirmed that the chameleon deaths were from the close-in, high UVB levels and the non-terrestrial spectral content. The entire marketplace was not completely cleaned of these original products so there is still a possiblity of them showing-up. They re-formulated their phosphor and re-released these products into the marketplace again. The results of UV Guide UK testing of these re-formulated products has not yet been released so we don't know the independently tested output specifications, including spectral content.

If your chameleon is actually keeping its eyes closed during mid-day hours then it is very likely that the tube you are using is one that is dangerous. Just turn it off and wait to see if there is any overnight improvement. The eye problem is photo-kerato-conjunctivitis and is usually completly reversible on its own. For very close-in exposure (6"-12" and under) your chameleon may have UVB skin burns too which, time will tell, may clear-up without treatment.

I expect to hear that your chameleon has a full recovery if indeed there is a problem with your UVB light source.

She is Okay

The vet said she is perfect, well hydrated and great color. We went to the store and fixed the light problem. Also we have bought a cricket home and have started to gut load crickets. Thanks again for all the information. Now we are going to work on building a bigger home and research on a bin.

Ya we did move fast but we had to get it done. We don't mess around when it comes to a pet. Especially being a new owner of a pet.

Howdy,

Glad to hear that things are getting sorted out and that she is still healthy :).

Its always nice to have a wider diet and go easy on those mill worms. Since they have a hard exoskeleton they can be hard to digest in large numbers. You could try getting some hornworms and silk worms who are much softer. Maybe some roaches or flies as well?

I know some people who only feed crickets. But that must be awfully boring for the things so I have my chameleon on three different feeders that I switch around every once and a while.

Good luck! And as others said before about the eggs, dont forget to provide her a place to lay and dont disturb her when she begins digging.
